MELBOURNE - Aug 22/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time A strong wind warning is current for coastal waters for southeast Gulf of Carpentaria waters during Tuesday morning. A strong wind warning is current for coastal waters between Lockhart River and Double Island Point. A severe weather warning has been issued for coastal communities between Sandy Cape and Point Danger. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A trough over the southern Coral Sea is gradually moving west direction and is expected to approach the southeast Queensland coast during Wednesday. A large high [1041 hPa] in the Tasman Sea extends a firm ridge across central and southern Australia. An upper low is situated over the central Queensland coast and is expected to move offshore during Tuesday night. Forecast for the rest of Tuesday Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms near the southeast Queensland coast. Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms along the east coast south of Townsville. Isolated showers and thunderstorms will develop about adjacent inland areas during the afternoon. Isolated showers elsewhere along the east Queensland coast. Fine across the remainder of the state. Dangerous surf conditions developing south of Fraser Island. Fresh to strong and gusty SE winds along much of the east Queensland coast. Moderate SE winds elsewhere. A very high fire danger in the Northwest, Central West, Maranoa and Warrego, Darling Downs and Granite Belt, Central Highlands and Coalfields, Capricornia, Northern Goldfields and Upper Flinders and North Tropical Coast and Tablelands districts. Forecast for Wednesday The trough is expected to be situated near the east Queensland coast while the upper low will have moved offshore over the western Coral Sea. The high is expected to move slowly eastwards towards the north island of New Zealand while slightly weakening. Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms are again expected near the southeast Queensland coast, south of about St. Lawrence. Isolated showers along the remainder of the east coast south of Bowen, developing about adjacent inland areas during the afternoon. Fine across the remainder of the state apart from the chance of isolated showers along the northeast Queensland coast. Warm daytime temperatures developing across the southern interior. Dangerous surf conditions continuing south of Fraser Island. Fresh to strong SE winds along much of the Queensland coast with moderate SE winds elsewhere. Forecast for Thursday The trough near the east Queensland coast is expected to weaken as the upper low over the Coral Sea dissipates and moves further offshore. The high is expected to continue moving slowly in an eastwards direction towards the north island of New Zealand while weakening a little further. Isolated showers along the east Queensland coast south of Bowen, developing about adjacent inland areas during the afternoon. Fine conditions across the remainder of the state apart from the chance of isolated showers along the northeast Queensland coast. Warm daytime temperatures across the southern interior. Forecast for Friday The high is expected to be situated near the north island of New Zealand and extend a weak ridge along the east Queensland coast. Another trough will begin to develop across inland Queensland as another high begins form across southern Australia. Isolated showers along the east Queensland coast, developing about adjacent inland areas during the afternoon and possibly extending into the central and southern interior. Fine conditions across the remainder of the state apart from the chance of isolated showers along the far northeast Queensland coast. Warm daytime temperatures across the southern interior. Outlook for Saturday, Sunday and Monday The trough situated across inland Queensland is expected to move further east into southeast Queensland during the outlook period. The high developing across southern Australia is expected to gradually move eastwards while extending a ridge across western Queensland. Isolated showers along the east Queensland coast, possibly developing about the central and southern interior during the afternoons. Generally fine conditions across the far west of the state.
