Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Aug 22/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
A gale warning is current for coastal waters between Double
Island Point and Point Danger.
A strong wind warning is current for coastal waters for southeast Gulf of
Carpentaria waters during Tuesday morning.
A strong wind warning is current for coastal waters between Lockhart River and
Double Island Point.
A Severe Weather Warning has been issued for coastal communities between Sandy
Cape and Point Danger on Tuesday.

Weather Situation
A trough over the southern Coral Sea is gradually moving in a westward
direction and is expected to approach the southeast Queensland coast during
Tuesday. A large high [1040 hPa] in the Tasman Sea extends a firm ridge across
central and southern Australia. An upper low is otherwise situated over the
central Queensland coast and is expected to move offshore during Tuesday.
Forecast for the rest of Monday
Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms near the central and southern
Queensland coast, tending more isolated about adjacent inland areas. Isolated
showers along the northeast Queensland coast. Fine conditions across the
remainder of the state. Fresh and gusty SE winds along much of the east
Queensland coast. Moderate SE winds elsewhere. A very high fire danger in the
Central West district.
Forecast for Tuesday
Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms near the southeast Queensland
coast. Isolated showers and thunderstorms along the east coast south of
Townsville, developing about adjacent inland areas during the afternoon.
Isolated showers elsewhere along the east Queensland coast. Fine across the
remainder of the state. Dangerous surf conditions developing south of Fraser
Island. Fresh and gusty SE winds along much of the east Queensland coast.
Moderate SE winds elsewhere. A very high fire danger in the Northwest, Central
West, Maranoa and Warrego, Darling Downs and Granite Belt, Central Highlands and
Coalfields, Capricornia, Northern Goldfields and Upper Flinders and North
Tropical Coast and Tablelands districts.
Forecast for Wednesday
The trough is expected to be situated near the east Queensland coast while
the upper low will have moved offshore over the Coral Sea. The high otherwise is
expected to move slowly eastwards towards the north island of New Zealand while
slightly weakening. Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms near the
southeast Queensland coast. Isolated showers along the east coast south of
Bowen, developing about adjacent inland areas during the afternoon. Fine across
the remainder of the state apart from the chance of isolated showers along the
northeast Queensland coast. Warm daytime temperatures developing across the
southern interior. Dangerous surf conditions south of Fraser Island.
Forecast for Thursday
The trough near the east Queensland coast is expected to weaken as the upper
low over the Coral Sea dissipates and moves further offshore. The high is
otherwise expected to continue moving slowly in an eastwards direction towards
the north island of New Zealand while weakening a little further. Isolated
showers along the east Queensland coast south of Bowen, developing about
adjacent inland areas during the afternoon. Fine conditions across the remainder
of the state apart from the chance of isolated showers along the northeast
Queensland coast. Warm daytime temperatures across the southern interior.
Forecast for Friday
The high is expected to be situated near the north island of New Zealand and
extend a weak ridge along the east Queensland coast. Another trough will begin
to develop across inland Queensland as another high begins form across southern
Australia. Isolated showers along the east Queensland coast south of Bowen,
developing about adjacent inland areas during the afternoon. Fine conditions
across the remainder of the state apart from the chance of isolated showers
along the far northeast Queensland coast. Warm daytime temperatures across the
southern interior.
Outlook for Saturday, Sunday and Monday
The trough situated across inland Queensland is expected to move off the
southeast coast over the weekend. The high developing across southern Australia
is expected to gradually move eastwards while extending a ridge across western
Queensland. Isolated showers along the east Queensland coast, developing inland
during the afternoon. Generally fine conditions across the far west of the
state.
