Waters.
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A trough is moving off the east coast of Queensland. An upper level trough
will move over New South Wales into far southern Queensland on Friday as a low
develops off the New South Wales coast. A high over South Australia extends a
ridge into western Queensland. The high over South Australia will weaken on
Friday as a new high builds over the southern Tasman Sea.
Forecast for the rest of Thursday
Fine throughout the state apart from possible isolated showers about the
Granite Belt and far southern Darling Downs. Moderate to fresh SW winds in the
south. Mostly moderate S to SE winds in the north with coastal afternoon sea
breezes. A very high fire danger over the Central West, Central Highlands and
Coalfields and Southeast Coast districts.
Forecast for Friday
Isolated afternoon showers are expected over far southern parts of the state,
with possible isolated thunderstorms, particularly near the southern border.
Fine elsewhere. Early frost areas are likely over the central and southeastern
interior. Strong S'ly winds will extend over southeast Gulf waters during the
morning.
Forecast for Saturday
The low is expected to remain slow moving over the northern Tasman Sea, while
the upper trough will persist over northeastern New South Wales. Isolated
showers are expected in the unstable airmass in the far south, with possible
isolated thunderstorms about the southern border ranges. A ridge of high
pressure will dominate weather elsewhere across the state with fine conditions
continuing. Early frost areas are again expected over the central and southeast
interior, and will also possibly occur on higher ground in the tropics.
Forecast for Sunday
The low will most likely remain slow moving over the northern Tasman Sea. The
upper trough is expected to move north along the southern coast towards Fraser
Island. A series of surface troughs move north along the southern Queensland
coast, with scattered showers in the southeast and possible inland afternoon
thunderstorms. Showers tending isolated about the Wide Bay and Capricornia
coasts. The high over the southern Tasman Sea will maintain a ridge and fine
conditions elsewhere over the state. A strong wind warning is expected for the
Southeast Coast from the afternoon. Early frost areas will occur over the
central and southeast interior.
Forecast for Monday
The low over the northern Tasman Sea will weaken as the upper trough moves
slowly north towards the central Queensland coast. The surface troughs continue
to move north towards the southern tropical waters increasing shower activity
along the eastern Queensland coast. The high in the southern Tasman Sea will
maintain a ridge over the rest of Queensland with fine conditions prevailing. A
strong wind warning is possible south of the surface trough.
Outlook for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday
The upper trough will most likely move offshore of the Capricornia coast and
cut off into an upper low. The high over the southern Tasman Sea will weaken as
a new high forms over southern New South Wales. This new high will extend a
ridge across most of the state with strong SE winds and isolated showers along
much of the eastern Queensland coast, particularly in the southeast, and fine
conditions in the interior.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Friday.
