Australia -- Victoria Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Aug 17/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A low pressure system is deepening to the southwest of Victoria and should move from southwestern Victoria to northern Victoria during Thursday. The low will be centred off the central New South Wales coast on Friday. A high pressure system will pass to the south of the State Friday night before strengthening to the east of Tasmania during the weekend.
Forecast for the rest of WednesdayRain areas in the east with heavy falls near the ranges. Isolated showers elsewhere increasing to rain areas in the southwest. Isolated thunderstorms possible over the northwest. Fresh to locally strong northerly wind ahead of a colder, west to northwesterly change extending from the west.Thursday 18 AugustEarly rain in the far east. Scattered showers otherwise, mainly over northern and western areas, tending to rain areas over the southwest during the morning. Snowfalls lowering to 1100 metres. Cool with a moderate northwesterly wind tending fresh southwesterly over western districts.Friday 19 AugustIsolated showers in the north clearing during the afternoon. Scattered showers in the southwest becoming isolated. Isolated showers in the southeast increasing in the far east during the afternoon. Snow showers above 1400 metres at first retreating to above 1800 metres during the day. Cool with moderate to locally fresh southerly winds.Saturday 20 AugustIsolated showers in the south, mainly over Gippsland. Fine elsewhere after early fogs. Mostly sunny over the north, but partly cloudy in the south. Cool to mild with generally light winds.Sunday 21 AugustFine after isolated drizzle clears in East Gippsland and morning fog patches. A cool to mild and mostly sunny day with chiefly light winds.The next routine forecast will be issued at 5:00 am EST Thursday.Product IDV10310
