Australia -- Victoria Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Aug 16/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A cold front over South Australia will cross Victoria on Wednesday as an associated low pressure system forms south of Mt Gambier. The low will cross Victoria on Thursday and will be centred off the central New South Wales coast on Friday. A high pressure system will pass to the south of the State Friday night and during Saturday.
Forecast for the rest of TuesdayRain areas extending to western and central areas tonight. Moderate to fresh northerly wind, strengthening over elevated areas of western Victoria.Wednesday 17 AugustRain areas extending to eastern districts during the early morning with some heavy falls developing over the eastern ranges during the afternoon and evening. Fresh to locally strong northerly wind ahead of a colder, westerly change extending from the west. Showers following the change, and the chance of thunderstorms developing in the west. Snowfalls developing Wednesday night above 1500 metres.Thursday 18 AugustEarly rain in the far east. Scattered showers over southern and mountain areas, more widespread over the far southwest and over the northeast. Isolated showers over the northern plains. Snowfalls lowering to 1100 metres. Cool with a moderate northwesterly wind tending fresh southwesterly over western districts.Friday 19 AugustIsolated showers in the north clearing during the morning. Scattered showers over southern and mountain areas. Snow showers above 1400 metres at first, rising to 1800 metres. Cool with moderate to locally fresh southerly winds.Saturday 20 AugustIsolated showers in the south, mainly over Gippsland. Fine elsewhere. Mostly sunny over the north, but partly cloudy in the south. Cool to mild with generally light winds.The next routine forecast will be issued at 5:00 am EST Wednesday.Product IDV10310
