Australia -- Victoria Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Aug 15/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A high pressure system southeast of Tasmania extends a weakening ridge to just off the Australian east coast. A cold front will move across South Australia on Tuesday and Victoria on Wednesday and an associated low pressure system will cross Victoria on Thursday. A high pressure system will develop north of the Bight on Thursday then extend a ridge across Tasmania on Friday.
Forecast for the rest of MondayPatchy rain contracting to central and eastern areas this evening. Light to moderate northeast to northerly winds.Tuesday 16 AugustPatchy rain in the east clearing during the morning. Rain areas developing in the west during the morning, extending to central districts later. A cool to mild day with a moderate to fresh northerly wind, strengthening over western and central districts.Wednesday 17 AugustRain areas, widespread over the eastern ranges with locally heavy falls, and a fresh to strong northerly wind ahead of a colder, gusty southwesterly change extending from the west. Showers following the change, and the chance of thunderstorms developing in the west. Snowfalls lowering to 1400 metres by Wednesday night.Thursday 18 AugustEarly rain in the east. Scattered showers to follow over southern and mountain areas with isolated showers over the northern plains. Snowfalls lowering to 1200 metres. Cool with a moderate to fresh west to northwesterly wind tending southwest to southerly during the day.Friday 19 AugustIsolated showers in the north clearing during the morning. Scattered showers over southern and mountain areas becoming isolated during the day. Clearing snow showers above 1700 metres.
