Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Aug 15/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A high to the south of Tasmania extends a weak ridge along the east coast of
Queensland. The high should maintain the ridge over the next few days. A
surface trough should enter the state from the west on Wednesday.
Forecast for the rest of Monday
Fine throughout Queensland except for just a few isolated and mainly light
showers about the central and northeast coasts. Warm daytime temperatures
developing across western Queensland, and areas of early morning fog about the
eastern districts. Light to moderate SE winds along the east coast, fresh at
times north of St Lawrence. Light to moderate SE to NE winds elsewhere.
Forecast for Tuesday
The high will remain over the southern Tasman Sea while maintaining a weak
ridge along the east coast of Queensland. The ridge and mainly dry air, will
keep most of Queensland fine and sunny, except for some isolated showers along
parts of the northeast and central coasts. Warm daytime temperatures across
western Queensland, but isolated early morning frost patches are still possible
about the Granite Belt. Areas of early morning fog about the eastern districts.
Forecast for Wednesday
A trough will enter the far west of the state during the morning and move
eastwards across inland Queensland during the day. Isolated showers and possible
afternoon thunderstorms over the southern interior. Isolated showers across the
southeast and also along the remainder of east Queensland coast. Fine over the
remainder of the state, with warm daytime temperatures across western
Queensland.
Forecast for Thursday
The trough will move over the eastern districts during the day, generating
isolated showers and possible thunderstorms across the southeast. Drier air
should limit the shower activity along the rest of the east coast, but some
isolated showers are still possible about the northeast. Fine over the remainder
of the state, with cooler daytime temperatures across western Queensland.
Outlook for Friday, Saturday and Sunday
The trough will move offshore, and a low may develop in the Tasman Sea.
Queensland's southeast should be mainly fine during the outlook period, but
lingering instability and some onshore wind flow gives just the chance of some
isolated showers for the latter part of the week. The rest of the state should
remain mainly fine under the influence of a new high over southern Australia,
with the exception of just a few isolated showers about parts of the northeast
coast.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST
Monday.
