Australia -- New South Wales Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Aug 15/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of New South Wales was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A strengthening high pressure system to the southeast of Tasmania extends a ridge into eastern New South Wales. The high is expected to move slowly over the southern Tasman Sea during the next day or two. An active cold front is forecast to cross the state during Wednesday and Thursday bringing rain areas, particularly over southern and central districts. A low is then likely to form over the western Tasman Sea towards the end of the week as an upper level trough moves across the region, although it's precise position is currently uncertain.
Forecast for the rest of MondayThe chance of showers along the coast north of about Nowra. Patchy rain developing over the southern inland during the afternoon or evening. Fine elsewhere, with cloud increasing through the afternoon. Morning fog patches, chiefly in the east. Northeast to northwest winds in the west, tending light and variable further east.Tuesday 16 AugustPossible isolated showers along the northern coast and over the southern and central inland. Fine elsewhere. Chiefly north to northeast winds, freshening in the far west.Wednesday 17 AugustRain areas developing west of the ranges, particularly in southern and central districts, and likely easing in the far west. Patchy rain extending to the coast later. Snow about higher parts of the Alps, chiefly later. Freshening northerly winds shifting westerly in the west.Thursday 18 AugustRain areas in the east easing to showers during the morning. Isolated showers over most western districts but fine in the far northwest. Snow likely about higher parts of the central and southern ranges and possible about the northern ranges later. Possible isolated thunderstorms. Cool to cold day for most districts west of the ranges. West to southwest winds extending throughout, locally strong and gusty.The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 pm EST Monday.Product IDN10031
