MELBOURNE - Aug 14/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A strong high to the south of Tasmania extends a ridge along the east Queensland coast. The high is expected to move slowly southeastwards into the southern Tasman Sea while maintaining a similar strength over the next couple of days. A weak trough is otherwise situated across inland Queensland and is expected to weaken during Monday. Forecast for the rest of Sunday Isolated showers along the central and southeast Queensland coasts. Isolated showers and thunderstorms across the southeast. Fine over the remainder of the state. Light to moderate SE winds along the east coast, fresh at times north of St Lawrence. Light to moderate SE to NE winds elsewhere. Forecast for Monday Isolated showers along the central and northeast Queensland coasts. Fine over the remainder of the state, with warm daytime temperatures developing across western Queensland. Early frost areas about the southeast interior. Light to moderate SE winds along the east coast, fresh at times north of St Lawrence. Light to moderate SE to NE winds elsewhere. Forecast for Tuesday The strong high will remain over the southern Tasman Sea while continuing to extend a ridge along the east Queensland coast. Isolated showers along parts of the central and northeast Queensland coasts. Fine over the remainder of the state, with warm to hot daytime temperatures across western Queensland. Early frost patches possible about the Granite Belt. Forecast for Wednesday A trough will enter the far west of the state during the morning and move eastwards across inland Queensland during the day. Isolated showers and possible afternoon thunderstorms over the southern interior. Isolated showers across the southeast and also along the remainder of east Queensland coast. Fine over the remainder of the state, with warm to hot daytime temperatures across western Queensland. Early frost patches possible about the Granite Belt. Forecast for Thursday The trough will continue to move eastwards into eastern Queensland during the morning and into the tropics during the day. Isolated showers and possible thunderstorms across the southeast. Isolated showers along the northeast Queensland coast. Fine over the remainder of the state, with cooler daytime temperatures across western Queensland. Outlook for Friday, Saturday and Sunday The trough will move offshore while a low is likely to develop in either the northern Tasman Sea or southern Coral Sea. A high will otherwise develop over southern Australia and is expected to extend a ridge across western Queensland. Isolated showers across southeast and also along parts of the east Queensland coast Fine over the remainder of the state. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST Monday.
