MELBOURNE - Aug 13/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A high in the Southern Ocean extends a ridge along the east Queensland coast. The high is expected to strengthen while moving slowly eastwards to the south of Tasmania and into the southern Tasman Sea over the weekend. Forecast for the rest of Saturday Fine throughout the state except for isolated showers along the southeast Queensland coast, mainly about Fraser Island. Light to moderate S to SE winds about the east coast, fresh at times. Light to moderate NE to SE winds elsewhere. Forecast for Sunday Isolated showers along the central and southeast Queensland coasts, developing over adjacent inland areas during the afternoon. Fine across the remainder of the state. Early frost patches about the southeast interior. Cool morning across the tropics. Light to moderate SE winds about the east coast, fresh at times. Light to moderate NE to SE winds elsewhere. Forecast for Monday The strong high will maintain its strength in the southern Tasman Sea while continuing to extend a ridge along the east Queensland coast. Isolated showers about exposed parts of the east Queensland coast. Fine over the remainder of the state, with warm daytime temperatures developing across western Queensland. Early morning frost areas about the southeast interior. Forecast for Tuesday The strong high will become slow moving in the southern Tasman Sea while continuing to extend a ridge along the east Queensland coast. Isolated showers about exposed parts of the east Queensland coast. Fine over the remainder of the state, with warm to hot daytime temperatures across western Queensland. Early frost patches about the Granite Belt. Forecast for Wednesday A trough moving eastwards across central Australia will enter the far west of the state during the morning and move across inland Queensland during the day. Isolated showers and possible afternoon thunderstorms over the southern interior. Isolated showers about the southeast and also along the north tropical coast. Fine over the remainder of the state, with hot daytime temperatures across western Queensland. Early frost patches possible about the Granite Belt. Outlook for Thursday, Friday and Saturday The trough will move eastwards into the Coral Sea on Thursday. A high will otherwise develop over southern Australia and extend a ridge across most of Queensland by Saturday. Isolated showers and possible thunderstorms will clear southeast Queensland on Thursday. Fine over the remainder of the state except for isolated showers along parts of the east Queensland coast.
