Weather Situation
A ridge of high pressure lies over the Great Australian Bight, and extends a
ridge along the east coast of Queensland. The high should drift eastwards, and
is expected to be centred near Tasmania over the weekend.
Forecast for the rest of Friday
Fine, mild and sunny. Light to moderate SW to SE winds.
Forecast for Saturday
Fine throughout the state except for just a few isolated and light showers in
the onshore flow about the southeast coast. The high should be centred near
Tasmania, and will maintain a ridge across the east coast of Queensland. Cool
morning temperatures across the state, with widespread early frosts expected
about central, southern and southeastern inland areas. Light to moderate SW to
SE winds.
Forecast for Sunday
The high should be centred south of Tasmania, and will maintain a ridge along
the east Queensland coast. Remaining fine, sunny and dry over most of the
state, however a weak upper trough should produce some cloudy periods with just
a few isolated light showers over the southeast districts and the central and
Capricornia coasts. Some isolated showers are also possible about the northeast
in an onshore wind flow. Isolated patches of early morning frost over the
southeast and southern interior.
Forecast for Monday
The high should remain to the south of Tasmania and will maintain the ridge
along the east Queensland coast. Fine throughout the state except for some
isolated, mainly light showers about parts of the east coast. Areas of early
morning frost about the southeast and southern interior.
Forecast for Tuesday
The high should stay south of Tasmania and continue producing fine conditions
across Queensland, except for some isolated, mainly light showers about parts of
the east coast. Isolated areas of early morning frost about the Granite Belt.
Warm daytime temperatures over the southern interior and western districts.
Outlook for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday
The high should drift eastwards across the southern reaches of the Tasman sea
during the outlook period, arriving near New Zealand by around Friday. So
remaining fine throughout most of Queensland, except for some isolated showers
about the east coast in the middle of the week, clearing near the end of the
week as a new high builds over central Australia.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Saturday.
