Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Aug 12/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A trough has moved offshore of the east Queensland coast. A broad area of
high pressure will develop over Queensland today in the wake of the trough. A
high will strengthen near Tasmania over the weekend, reinforcing a ridge along
the east Queensland coast.
Forecast for the rest of Friday
Fine. A cold morning across much of the state, with widespread early frosts
through the central, southern and southeastern interior. Generally light to
moderate SW to SE winds.
Forecast for Saturday
Isolated light showers will occur along the exposed coast south of about
Yeppoon as the wind flow tends more onshore and moisture increases. A high will
move to the southwest of Tasmania and intensify while extending a ridge across
western Queensland and the tropical east coast. Conditions will remain fine over
the interior and through northern districts under the influence of the ridge. An
upper level trough will move over western Queensland. Minimum temperatures will
remain generally cooler than average across the state, with early frosts
expected about central, southern and southeastern inland areas.
Forecast for Sunday
The high will move slowly east into the southern Tasman Sea, maintaining a
firm ridge along the east Queensland coast. Isolated showers will occur along
the east coast south of about Mackay in the onshore wind flow, and also develop
on the northeast tropical coast at night. The upper trough will move over
southeastern Queensland, producing some cloud and isolated light afternoon
showers over southeast inland parts. Early morning frost areas will contract to
the Granite Belt and Carnarvon ranges as moisture increases.
Forecast for Monday
The high over the southern Tasman Sea will remain slow moving and maintain a
firm ridge along the east Queensland coast. Mostly fine conditions will occur in
the southeast with just the chance of isolated light showers east of the Great
Dividing Range. Isolated showers will continue along the northeast tropical
coast, with some light shower activity also possible on exposed parts of the
central coast and islands. Fine conditions will persist elsewhere under a dry,
stable airmass. Early light frost remains possible on the Granite Belt.
Outlook for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday
The high will remain slow moving over the southern Tasman Sea, maintaining a
firm ridge along much of the east Queensland coast. Isolated showers will
continue along exposed parts of the east tropical coast. A trough will most
likely enter western Queensland on Wednesday and move east, contracting off the
southeast coast on Thursday. This trough is expected to produce some cloud over
southern districts and possible isolated showers or thunderstorms over the
southeast before clearing to sea during Thursday. Warm daytime temperatures will
also occur ahead of the trough, particularly over western districts on Tuesday
and Wednesday.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST
Friday.
