MELBOURNE - Aug 12/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A trough has moved offshore of the east Queensland coast. A broad area of high pressure will develop over Queensland today in the wake of the trough. A high will strengthen near Tasmania over the weekend, reinforcing a ridge along the east Queensland coast. Forecast for the rest of Friday Fine. A cold morning across much of the state, with widespread early frosts through the central, southern and southeastern interior. Generally light to moderate SW to SE winds. Forecast for Saturday Isolated light showers will occur along the exposed coast south of about Yeppoon as the wind flow tends more onshore and moisture increases. A high will move to the southwest of Tasmania and intensify while extending a ridge across western Queensland and the tropical east coast. Conditions will remain fine over the interior and through northern districts under the influence of the ridge. An upper level trough will move over western Queensland. Minimum temperatures will remain generally cooler than average across the state, with early frosts expected about central, southern and southeastern inland areas. Forecast for Sunday The high will move slowly east into the southern Tasman Sea, maintaining a firm ridge along the east Queensland coast. Isolated showers will occur along the east coast south of about Mackay in the onshore wind flow, and also develop on the northeast tropical coast at night. The upper trough will move over southeastern Queensland, producing some cloud and isolated light afternoon showers over southeast inland parts. Early morning frost areas will contract to the Granite Belt and Carnarvon ranges as moisture increases. Forecast for Monday The high over the southern Tasman Sea will remain slow moving and maintain a firm ridge along the east Queensland coast. Mostly fine conditions will occur in the southeast with just the chance of isolated light showers east of the Great Dividing Range. Isolated showers will continue along the northeast tropical coast, with some light shower activity also possible on exposed parts of the central coast and islands. Fine conditions will persist elsewhere under a dry, stable airmass. Early light frost remains possible on the Granite Belt. Outlook for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday The high will remain slow moving over the southern Tasman Sea, maintaining a firm ridge along much of the east Queensland coast. Isolated showers will continue along exposed parts of the east tropical coast. A trough will most likely enter western Queensland on Wednesday and move east, contracting off the southeast coast on Thursday. This trough is expected to produce some cloud over southern districts and possible isolated showers or thunderstorms over the southeast before clearing to sea during Thursday. Warm daytime temperatures will also occur ahead of the trough, particularly over western districts on Tuesday and Wednesday. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST Friday.
