Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Aug 10/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A high over southern Western Australia extends a weak ridge through central
Australia and into western Queensland. A surface trough lies over inland
Queensland and will move east today, contacting off the coast during the
afternoon and evening. An upper trough will amplify over southeastern Queensland
today before contracting off the coast late tonight.
Forecast for the rest of Thursday
Isolated showers and possible thunderstorms over southeast districts,
contracting to the coast in the evening and clearing offshore at night. Mostly
fine elsewhere with only isolated light showers over the Maranoa, clearing late
this afternoon. A very high fire danger in the Capricornia district.
Forecast for Friday
The high will move east towards southeastern Australia, extending a ridge and
fine conditions over Queensland.  A weak trough will move north along the New
South Wales coast and approach the southeastern Queensland border. A drier wind
flow will result in a cold morning across much of the state, with early frosts
through the southern, central and southeast interior.
Forecast for Saturday
The trough will continue to move northwards over southern Queensland waters
and will cause isolated light showers to develop along the coast south of
Yeppoon. The high will move slowly eastwards to the south of Tasmania and
intensify while extending a ridge across western Queensland and the tropical
east coast. Conditions will remain fine over the interior and through northern
districts under the influence of the ridge. An upper level trough will move over
western Queensland. Minimum temperatures will remain generally cooler than
average across the state, with early frosts expected about central, southern and
southeastern inland areas.
Forecast for Sunday
The high will move slowly east into the Tasman Sea, maintaining a firm ridge
along the east Queensland coast. Isolated showers will occur along the east
coast south of about Mackay in the onshore wind flow. The upper trough will move
over southeastern Queensland, producing isolated afternoon showers over
southeast inland parts and enhancing shower activity on the Fraser and Sunshine
Coasts. Early morning frost areas will contract to the Granite Belt and
Carnarvon ranges as moisture increases.
Outlook for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday
The high over the Tasman Sea will become slow moving and maintain a firm
ridge along the east Queensland coast during the outlook period. Isolated
showers will continue to occur along the east coast in the onshore wind flow,
particularly along the northeast tropical coast. Fine conditions are expected
elsewhere. A trough will most likely approach western Queensland late Wednesday.
Warm N'ly winds ahead of the trough will result in above average daytime
temperatures over western districts during the outlook period.
