Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Aug 9/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A high situated over central Australia extends a ridge across the Queensland
interior. The high is expected weaken into Wednesday as a trough currently
moving across South Australia enters western Queensland. An upper trough will
also enter southwestern Queensland on Wednesday.
Forecast for the rest of Tuesday
Fine throughout most of the state, with just the chance of isolated showers
about border areas of the southeast interior. Light to moderate SW to SE winds
over the tropics. Light to moderate W to SW winds elsewhere, fresh at times
about southeast Queensland. A very high fire danger in the Maranoa and Warrego,
Central Highlands and Coalfields, Darling Downs and Granite Belt, Wide Bay and
Burnett and Southeast Coast districts.
Forecast for Wednesday
Isolated afternoon and evening showers are possible over the southern
interior. Fine conditions over the remainder of the state, with early frosts
about central, southern and southeast inland areas.  A cold morning in the
tropics with possible early morning frost about the Atherton Tablelands.
Generally light to moderate SW to SE winds over the tropics. Light to moderate N
to NW winds elsewhere ahead of a fresh and gusty W to SW change over western
Queensland. A very high fire danger in the Northwest, Central West and Northern
Goldfields and Upper Flinders districts.
Forecast for Thursday
The surface and upper trough will move eastwards across the state and will
generate isolated showers and possible thunderstorms over the southern interior
and southeast districts before moving offshore in the evening. A high over the
Southern Ocean is expected to extend a ridge across western Queensland, with
fine conditions and a cooler day over the remainder of the state. Early morning
frost patches are possible about the central and southeast inland areas. Another
cool morning will occur in the tropics with early frost possible about the
Atherton Tablelands.
Forecast for Friday
The high over the Southern Ocean will extend a ridge across much of
Queensland, with fine conditions expected across the state. A weak trough will
move up the New South Wales coast and approach the southeastern Queensland
border. Early morning frost about central, southern and southeastern inland
areas. A cool to cold morning is expected in the tropics.
Forecast for Saturday
The trough will continue to move northwards along the east Queensland coast
and will cause isolated showers to develop along the southeast coast. The high
will move slowly eastwards to the south of Tasmania and intensify while
extending a ridge across western Queensland, maintaining fine conditions over
the remainder of the state. Early morning frost will occur about central,
southern and southeastern inland areas. A cool to cold morning is expected in
the tropics.
Outlook for Sunday, Monday and Tuesday
The high will move into the Tasman Sea, directing an onshore wind flow and
isolated showers onto the east Queensland coast. A weak trough will extend over
inland parts, while an upper trough will most likely move eastwards over
southern Queensland and contract off the southeast coast early Monday. The
combination of these troughs may produce isolated afternoon showers over central
and southeast inland areas on Sunday. Fine conditions and cool mornings are
expected over the remainder of the state.
