Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Aug 8/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A high over South Australia extends a ridge into the Queensland interior. A
trough lies offshore from eastern Queensland, with cooler and drier SW winds in
its wake,
Forecast for the rest of Tuesday
Fine throughout most of the state, with just the chance of isolated afternoon
showers about the southeast inland border areas. A cool morning over most parts,
with early morning frosts about the central, southern and southeast interior.
Light to moderate SW to SE winds over the tropics. Light to moderate W to SW
winds elsewhere, fresh at times about southeast Queensland. A very high fire
danger in the Maranoa and Warrego, Central Highlands and Coalfields, Darling
Downs and Granite Belt, Wide Bay and Burnett and Southeast Coast districts.
Forecast for Wednesday
The next surface and upper trough is expected to move across western
Queensland and is likely to produce isolated afternoon and evening showers over
the southern interior. Fine conditions will persist over the remainder of the
state, with early morning frosts about the central, southern and southeast
inland areas. A cold morning is expected in the tropics with early frost
possible about the Atherton Tablelands. Warm daytime temperatures will occur
over western Queensland in N'ly winds ahead of the trough.
Forecast for Thursday
The surface and upper trough will move east across Queensland, and may
generate isolated showers over southeast Queensland before moving offshore in
the evening. A high over the Southern Ocean is expected to extend a ridge over
western Queensland, with fine conditions elsewhere and a cooler day once again.
Early morning frost patches will continue about the central and southeast
interior. Another cool to cold morning will occur in the tropics with possible
early frost about the Atherton Tablelands.
Forecast for Friday
The high will move east over southeastern Australia and continue to extend a
ridge over much of Queensland, with fine conditions expected across the state. A
weak trough will move up the New South Wales coast and approach the southeastern
Queensland border, with possible strong winds along the far southern coast.
Early morning frost patches will continue about the central, southern and
southeastern inland areas. A cool morning is expected in the tropics.
Outlook for Saturday, Sunday and Monday
A ridge will persist over the east Queensland coast, with isolated showers
moving on to the coast, mostly south of Yeppoon. A weak surface trough will
extend over inland parts, while an upper level trough will most likely move east
over southern Queensland and contract off the southeast coast on Monday. The
combination of these troughs may produce isolated showers over southern and
central parts, chiefly over southeast districts on Sunday. Early frost areas
will contract to the southeast interior on Sunday due to the increasing
cloud.
