MELBOURNE - Aug 7/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A high [1021 hPa] north of New Zealand is moving east, and extends a weakening ridge over the tropical east Queensland coast. A trough over eastern Queensland is expected to move off the Southeast Coast today and the tropical coast early Tuesday morning, as a new ridge develops over western Queensland from another high currently over South Australia. An upper level trough is moving over New South Wales and southern Queensland. Forecast for the rest of Monday Showers clearing most of the southeast during the morning, but isolated showers persisting about the Capricornia, Wide Bay, Burnett and Sunshine Coast in the afternoon and early evening. Chance of isolated afternoon showers about the southern inland border areas. Morning fogs about the southeast inland and east coast north of the Sunshine Coast. Isolated early light frost about parts of the southern interior. Light to moderate SW to SE winds over the tropics. Light to moderate NW to SW winds elsewhere, fresh at times during the day. A very high fire danger in the Central Highlands and Coalfields district and in parts of southeast Queensland. Forecast for Tuesday A ridge should maintain a cool and dry SE to SW air flow over most of Queensland. Fine throughout most of the state, with early morning frosts about the central, southern and southeast inland areas. A cold morning in the tropics. Just the possibility of isolated afternoon showers about the southeast inland border areas due to lingering instability from the upper level trough over eastern New South Wales. Forecast for Wednesday The next surface and upper trough is expected to move across western Queensland and is likely to produce isolated afternoon and evening showers over the southern interior. Fine over the remainder of the state, with early morning frosts about the central, southern and southeast inland areas. A cold morning in the tropics. A warm day over western Queensland ahead of the trough. Forecast for Thursday The surface and upper trough move east across Queensland, and may generate isolated showers over southeast Queensland before moving offshore in the evening. A high over the Southern Ocean is expected to extend a ridge over western Queensland with fine conditions and a cooler day once again. Early morning frost patches about the central and southeast interior. Another cool to cold morning in the tropics. Outlook for Friday, Saturday and Sunday A low level ridge is expected to be in place over most of the state during this period with mostly fine conditions expected. An upper level trough moving over southern Queensland during the weekend may increase cloud in the south with the possibility of isolated showers. Remaining cool to cold at night, with early morning frost areas through parts of the interior. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST Monday.
