Australia -- Victoria Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Aug 7/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A broad area of low pressure is over Victoria. One low pressure centre over southwest Victoria is drifting northwards and weakening. Another low pressure centre is positioned off the southern New South Wales coast is expected to drift southwestwards towards Bass Strait tonight. The low complex is then expected to move away to the southeast during Wednesday and Thursday. A high pressure system will build over the Bight later Thursday.
Forecast for the rest of MondayLocal morning fog. Rain areas across western districts contracting northwards this afternoon. Scattered showers over the remainder, mostly during the afternoon and increasing to rain over the Central district overnight. Isolated thunderstorms possible this afternoon. Snowfalls down to 1100 metres. Cool to cold with generally light winds tending south to southwesterly and winds, freshening over the far west and later about the Gippsland and Central coasts.Tuesday 9 AugustRain areas extending over Central districts and also to parts of southwest Victoria. Isolated showers elsewhere. Snowfalls down to 1200 metres. Cool to cold with moderate to fresh south to southeasterly winds, strong at times about the coast.Wednesday 10 AugustRain extending through southern areas with moderate falls over Gippsland. Scattered showers over the northeast and west, although only isolated in the northwest. Snow on the ranges above 1400 metres. Cool to cold with moderate to fresh southeast winds, strong about the Gippsland coast.Thursday 11 AugustIsolated showers on and south of the ranges, scattered in the southeast at first but contracting to the southeast and southwest during the day. Chance of a shower in the northwest. Snowfalls on the ranges above 1700 metres. Cool in the south with moderate to fresh east to southeast winds. Milder in the northwest.The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 pm EST Monday.Product IDV10310
