Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Aug 7/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A weakening high [1023 hPa] over the Tasman Sea extends a ridge over the east
Queensland coast north of Fraser Island. An active trough system is moving east
across the Queensland interior, and is expected to move off the southern
Queensland coast during Monday.
Forecast for the rest of Sunday
Isolated showers about the east coast, tending scattered along the north
tropical coast in the morning. Showers and isolated thunderstorms over the
southern interior, contracting into the southeast late. Isolated showers
elsewhere about the eastern and central interior. Mostly moderate SE to NE winds
over the eastern tropics, shifting NE to NW over the southeast. Cooler, moderate
S to SW winds over western and southern Queensland in the wake of the trough.
Forecast for Monday
Showers and isolated thunderstorms over the southeast, clearing during the
early morning. Isolated afternoon showers persisting about the Capricornia, Wide
Bay, Burnett and Sunshine Coast. Isolated showers along the northeast coast
clearing during the morning. Just the possibility of isolated afternoon showers
about the southern inland border areas. Areas of early morning frost about the
southeast and central interior. Light to moderate SE to NE winds in the tropics.
Light to moderate NW to SW winds about the central and southern coasts. Cooler
light to moderate SW to SE winds elsewhere. A very high fire danger in the
Central Highlands and Coalfields district.
Forecast for Tuesday
A ridge over central Australia should maintain a cool and dry SE to SW air
flow over most of Queensland. Fine throughout most of the state, with early
morning frosts about the central, southern and southeast inland areas. Just the
possibility of isolated afternoon showers about the southeast inland border
areas due to lingering instability from the upper level trough moving over
eastern New South Wales.
Forecast for Wednesday
A ridge over central Australia should maintain a cool and dry SE to SW air
flow over Queensland. Fine throughout the state, with early morning frosts about
the central, southern and southeast inland areas.
Forecast for Thursday
A surface trough moves slowly east from SW Queensland, as a weak ridge
extends from a high in the Bight. Fine throughout the state, with early morning
frosts about the central, southern and southeast inland areas.
Outlook for Friday, Saturday and Sunday
Stable conditions through the state with a ridge dominating through
Queensland. An upper level trough moving in from the west during the period may
increase cloud in the south but remaining mostly fine. Remaining cool generally,
with frost areas through parts of the interior.
