MELBOURNE - Aug 5/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time Nil. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A high [1029 hPa] over the Tasman Sea extends a ridge over the east coast of Queensland. The high is expected to move slowly east and weaken over the next couple of days. A surface trough is expected to move eastwards across southern Queensland during the weekend. Forecast for the rest of Saturday Isolated showers about the eastern districts, tending to scattered showers about the north tropical coast. Isolated showers over the eastern and central interior. Isolated showers and possible thunderstorms over the southwest, spreading into the southern interior during the day. Moderate to fresh SE winds along the tropical east coast. Light to moderate SE to NE winds elsewhere, tending moderate NE to NW over the interior ahead of a S to SW change. Forecast for Sunday A ridge is expected to persist over the north tropical coast, but weaken during the day. The surface trough should move further eastwards over the central and southeast interior of the state as an upper level trough moves over New South Wales. Showers and isolated thunderstorms are expected to accompany the trough as it moves across southern Queensland, particularly about the southern border areas. Isolated showers over the remainder of eastern and central Queensland ahead of the surface trough. Fine west of about Longreach. Areas of morning fog about the eastern districts. Mainly moderate NE to SE winds about the state's northeast, tending NE to NW'ly about the southeast. Cooler, light to moderate SW to SE winds about the western parts of the state behind the trough. Forecast for Monday Isolated showers about the southeast early during Monday should clear as the surface trough moves offshore later in the day. Dry and cooler southwest winds spreading across the interior, and eventually allowing the showers over the remainder of the east coast to clear by the evening. Areas of early morning frost about the southeast and central interior. Forecast for Tuesday A ridge over central Australia should maintain a cool and dry SE to SW air flow over Queensland. So fine throughout the state, with early morning frosts about the central, southern and southeast inland areas. Outlook for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday Another upper trough may again increase the instability about Queensland's southern border from mid week, meaning there is a slight chance of some further showers about the southern districts during the outlook period. Remaining fine, dry and cool over the remainder of the state, with morning frosts likely until at least the end of the working week over the central, southern and southeast interior. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST Saturday. Weather & WarningsAustraliaNew South WalesVictoriaQueenslandWarnings SummaryForecastsBrisbane ForecastQld.
