Australia -- Victoria Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Aug 5/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A low pressure system south of the Bight will weaken as it gradually moves across Victoria during the weekend. The low looks set to deepen off the New South Wales south coast early in the new week. Meanwhile a strengthening high pressure system over the Southern Ocean will gradually move to be south of Tasmania by late Monday. Another low pressure system will develop over the Bight on Tuesday.
Forecast for the rest of FridayA rain band moving into central districts will reach eastern districts tonight. Isolated showers and the chance of thunderstorms over the southwest. Becoming dry in the northwest. Light to moderate north to northwest wind, locally fresh about the eastern ranges.Saturday 6 AugustAreas of fog over the northwest. Rain in the east easing to showers. Isolated showers developing in remaining areas then becoming scattered over the southwest in the afternoon. Isolated afternoon thunderstorms possible. Snowfalls above 1400 metres. Cool with light winds tending east to southeasterly near the coast in the afternoon.Sunday 7 AugustScattered showers over the east extending to all districts in the afternoon. Snowfalls down to 1300 metres. Cool to cold with light winds tending moderate southeasterly in the south.Monday 8 AugustScattered showers over Gippsland extending to most southern districts in the afternoon. Isolated afternoon showers possible over the northern plains. Snowfalls down to 1200 metres rising to 1400 metres later. Cool to cold with generally moderate southeasterly winds.Tuesday 9 AugustIsolated showers near and south of the ranges tending more widespread over Gippsland and near the coast. Dry over the northern plains. Snowfalls down to 1300 metres. Cool in the south, milder over the northern plains. Light to moderate southeasterly winds, fresh at times about the coast.The next routine forecast will be issued at 5:00 am EST Saturday.Product IDV10310
