Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Aug 4/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
A strong wind warning is current for coastal waters from
Torres Strait to Bowen.

Weather Situation
A slow moving high [1031 hPa] over the Tasman Sea extends over the east coast
of Queensland. The high is expected to begin to weaken and move east. A trough
is expected to move into far southwest Queensland late Friday.
Forecast for the rest of Friday
Isolated showers about the east coast, tending scattered about the north
tropical coast. Isolated afternoon and evening showers over the eastern
interior. Fine elsewhere. Early morning frosts about the Granite Belt and parts
of the Darling Downs. A warm day in the southwest. Moderate to fresh E to SE
winds along the tropical east coast. Light to moderate SE to NE winds elsewhere,
tending NE to NW over the southwest and reaching fresh at times.
Forecast for Saturday
The high is expected to weaken and move east over the Tasman Sea. The ridge
over the tropical east Queensland coast is also expected to weaken. Isolated
showers are expected to continue about the east coast, tending scattered about
the north tropical coast. The surface trough is expected to move slowly
eastwards across the west and southwest of the state, producing isolated showers
and possible afternoon and evening thunderstorms over the southwest and southern
interior. Moist E to NE winds ahead of the trough is expected to produce
isolated showers over the eastern and central interior.
Forecast for Sunday
A weak ridge is expected to persist over the north tropical coast. The
surface trough should move further eastwards over the central and southeast
interior of the state during the day as an upper level trough moves over New
South Wales. Showers and isolated thunderstorms are expected to accompany the
trough as it moves across southern Queensland, particularly about the southern
border areas. Isolated showers over the remainder of eastern and central
Queensland ahead of the surface trough. Fine west of Longreach, with cooler
conditions in the Channel Country.
Forecast for Monday
The surface trough is expected to move off the southern and central
Queensland coast in the morning as a low deepens near the central New South
Wales coast. Drier and cooler southwest winds spreading across the interior.
Isolated showers clearing early in the morning about the southeast and north
tropical coast. Isolated showers are possible in far southeastern interior with
lingering instability. Possible early morning frosts about parts of the
southeast and central interior.
Outlook for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday
The low off the New South Wales coast is expected to move slowly east over
the Tasman Sea as a ridge extends across most of the Queensland interior. Cool
and dry S to SW winds across most of the state with predominantly fine
conditions expected. Early morning frosts about the central, southern and
southeast inland areas. A trough S to SE wind change may affect southeast
Queensland on Thursday, with isolated showers developing about the coast and
southeastern interior.

Friday.
