Australia -- Victoria Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Aug 4/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A low pressure system south of the Bight will weaken as it gradually approaches western Victoria during today and Saturday. A new low pressure system will develop off the New South Wales coast on Sunday, then move northeastwards over the Tasman Sea on Monday. The next high should lie southwest of Tasmania on Sunday before pushing south of that State on Monday.
Forecast for the rest of FridayA rain band over the west, slowly extending into the east. Isolated showers to follow near the coast.. Isolated thunderstorms possible in the southwest. Mild in the far east but cooler elsewhere. Light to moderate north to northwest wind, locally fresh over central and eastern districts.Saturday 6 AugustRain in the east easing to showers. Isolated showers developing in remaining areas then becoming scattered near the coast by the evening. Snowfalls above 1400 metres. Cool to cold with light winds tending southwest to southerly later.Sunday 7 AugustShowers in southern and mountain areas, becoming extensive in Gippsland and tending to rain in the east with locally heavy falls possible. Isolated showers developing over the northern plains. Snowfalls down to 1100 metres. Cool to cold with moderate to fresh south to southeasterly wind.Monday 8 AugustWidespread showers over Gippsland, tending to rain on the mountains with locally heavy falls. Isolated showers in remaining southern and mountain areas, scattered on the Otways. Dry on the northern plains. Snowfalls down to 1200 metres. Cool to cold with generally fresh southeasterly winds.The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 pm EST Friday.Product IDV10310
