Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Aug 3/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
A strong wind warning is current for coastal waters from the
Torres Strait to Bowen.
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A stationary high [1028 hPa] lies over the Tasman Sea. A ridge extends up the
east coast of Queensland. The high over the Tasman Sea is expected to strengthen
slightly during today.
Forecast for the rest of Thursday
Onshore winds should again produce isolated showers along the east coast
north of Fraser Island, spreading to nearby inland areas during the afternoon.
Conditions will remain fine elsewhere, with isolated early morning frosts over
the southeast interior. Daytime temperatures will remain above average in the
west and through the southern interior. Light to moderate E to SE winds about
the eastern districts, fresh at times along the northeast coast.
Forecast for Friday
The high is expected to drift slowly east over the Tasman Sea and start to
weaken, gradually relaxing the ridge along the east coast. A surface trough is
expected to enter far southwestern of the Channel Country. Isolated showers are
expected along the east coast in the onshore wind flow, tending scattered along
the northeast tropical coast. Remaining fine elsewhere, except for just the
chance of some isolated afternoon showers over the eastern interior. Just the
chance of some light morning frost over the Granite Belt.
Forecast for Saturday
The high will drift further east over the Tasman Sea, with the ridge relaxing
further. The surface trough is expected to move slowly eastwards across the
Channel Country, producing isolated showers and possible afternoon thunderstorms
over the southwest of the state. Moist E to NE winds ahead of the trough will
result in isolated showers over eastern and central parts of the state, tending
scattered along the northeast tropical coast.
Forecast for Sunday
The surface trough should move further eastwards during Sunday, producing
isolated showers and possible thunderstorms over Queensland's southern interior
and southeast. Isolated showers continuing about the remaining eastern
districts and the Central Highlands. Fine over the western districts, with
cooler conditions about the Channel Country.
Outlook for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday
Showers should contract off the southeast coast on Monday as the trough moves
offshore. Lingering surface moisture may lead to isolated showers or drizzle
about the southeast coast, Granite Belt and southern Darling Downs. Fine over
the majority of the state, though cooler due to dry southwest winds.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST
Thursday.
