Australia -- Victoria Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Aug 3/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A low pressure system south of the Bight will weaken as it gradually approaches and an associated low pressure trough will enter the State during today before slipping to the southeast during Friday. The low pressure system will weaken near Adelaide on Saturday before a new low pressure system develops off the New South Wales coast on Sunday and the next high should lie southwest of Tasmania.
Forecast for the rest of ThursdayRain areas over the southwest gradually extending eastwards to reach central and northwestern areas by the evening. Isolated showers possible near the eastern ranges this morning. Mild to warm ahead of the rain band with strong and gusty north to northwesterly winds, reaching gale force over the eastern ranges, easing during the day. Cooler in the southwest with winds easing and tending westerly.Friday 5 AugustA rain band affecting most of the western half during the morning, slowly extending into the east. Isolated showers to follow near the coast. Mild in the far east but cooler elsewhere. Light to moderate northerly to westerly winds.Saturday 6 AugustRain in the east easing to showers. Isolated showers developing in remaining areas then becoming scattered near the coast by the evening. Snowfalls above 1600 metres, lowering to 1300 metres. Cool to cold with light winds tending southwest to southerly later.Sunday 7 AugustShowers in southern and mountain areas, becoming extensive in Gippsland. The chance of a local shower on the northern plains but mostly dry. Snowfalls down to 1000 metres. Cool to cold with moderate to fresh south to southeasterly wind.The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 pm EST Thursday.Product IDV10310
