Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Aug 2/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
A strong wind warning is current for coastal waters from
Torres Strait to Cairns.

Weather Situation
A high [1027 hPa] over the Tasman Sea extends a ridge over the east coast of
Queensland. The high is expected to remain in the Tasman Sea over the next few
days and slightly strengthen.
Forecast for the rest of Tuesday
Fine and sunny conditions will continue over most of the state, except for
some isolated and mainly light showers about the east tropical coast.  A very
high fire danger in the Northern Goldfields.  Light to moderate SE to NE winds,
fresh at times about the northeast coast.
Forecast for Wednesday
Fine conditions expected except for some isolated showers in the onshore wind
flow along the tropical coast. Early morning frosts about the southeast
interior. Above average daytime temperatures are again expected in the western
and southern interior.  A very high fire danger in the Northern Goldfields.
Light to moderate SE to NE winds, fresh at times about the northeast coast.
Forecast for Thursday
The high is expected to slightly strengthen over the central Tasman Sea,
while maintaining a ridge and fine conditions over Queensland's interior.
Onshore wind flow will bring isolated showers to the east coast north of Fraser
Island. Patchy early morning frosts over the southeast interior. Daytime
temperatures again above average over the western and southern interior.
Forecast for Friday
The high is expected to remain over the central Tasman Sea and start to
weaken. The continuing easterly onshore flow should allow showers to spread from
Queensland's east coast into the eastern interior. Remaining fine in the central
and western parts of the state, though cloud will start to increase in the
southwest of the Channel Country, with a chance of light patchy rain late, as a
trough approaches from the west. Just the chance of some isolated light frost
about the Granite Belt.
Forecast for Saturday
The high over the Tasman Sea will continue to weaken as a upper level trough
system moves towards Victoria. However, isolated showers will still continue in
the easterly onshore flow, especially about eastern districts. A surface trough
will move east through the southwest of the state bringing showers and light
patchy rain, chiefly in southern parts.
Outlook for Sunday, Monday and Tuesday
The high will continue to weaken and eventually dissipate over the Tasman
Sea, allowing stream showers to decrease along most of the east coast. Showers
and possibly light rain will increase about the southern interior and southeast
as the surface trough moves east, before clearing late Monday as the trough
moves off the southeast coast.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Wednesday.
