The high is expected to drift slowly southeast towards New Zealand over the next few days, gradually relaxing the ridge. A weak surface trough will enter far southwestern Queensland late tonight and weaken over the southern interior on Sunday. An upper level trough will contract off the southeast coast on Sunday. Forecast for the rest of Saturday Scattered showers over Fraser Island. Very isolated showers developing elsewhere over the southern coast and adjacent inland this evening. Isolated, mostly light showers over the northeast tropical and central coasts. Fine over the interior. Light to moderate NW to NE winds in the southwest. Moderate to fresh SE winds along the east coast, strong at times north of Cooktown. Light to moderate SE to NE winds elsewhere. Forecast for Sunday Early morning fog patches over eastern parts, chiefly between Cairns and Rockhampton. Isolated light showers on the northeast tropical and central coasts. Isolated showers also on the Fraser and southern coasts, developing over the adjacent inland in the afternoon. Fine elsewhere. Early frosts over the central and southeast interior. A warm day over western districts with generally light to moderate NE to NW winds. Moderate to fresh SE winds along the coast north of Fraser Island, strong at times north of Cooktown. Light to moderate SE to NE winds elsewhere. Forecast for Monday The high will continue to move slowly towards New Zealand, maintaining a ridge along the Queensland coast and extending fresh to strong SE'ly winds over northern tropical waters. Most of the state will again be fine with only very isolated showers expected about the tropical east coast and early morning fog patches over eastern parts south of Cairns. Early morning frost areas will occur over the central and southeast interior, and also affect western parts of the Southeast Coast district. A very warm day is expected in the southwest and southern interior. Forecast for Tuesday The high will move slowly to the southeast of New Zealand, relaxing the ridge slightly along the east Queensland coast and easing SE'ly winds over far northern tropical waters. Isolated showers will continue about the tropical east coast. Fine conditions will persist elsewhere apart from early morning fog patches over eastern parts south of Cairns. Early morning frost areas will again occur about the central and southeast interior and western parts of the Southeast Coast district. Very warm daytime temperatures will continue in the southwest and southern interior. Forecast for Wednesday The high will remain slow moving near New Zealand. Isolated showers will continue in the onshore wind flow along the northeast tropical coast, possibly becoming scattered between Cairns and Townsville as moisture increases. Conditions will remain fine elsewhere, with early morning frost patches over the central and southeastern interior. Daytime temperatures will be well above the August average over the southwest and through the southern interior. Outlook for Thursday, Friday and Saturday A new high will develop over the Tasman Sea on Thursday, maintaining a ridge along the east Queensland coast throughout the outlook period. Isolated showers will occur about the east tropical and central coasts and adjacent inland in the onshore wind flow. Isolated showers will also possibly develop along the southern Queensland coast and through the eastern interior on Saturday depending on the position of the high. A trough system will most likely approach southwestern Queensland late in the week, though its movement and subsequent impact on weather over the southern interior of Queensland is still uncertain at this stage. Early morning frost areas are likely to continue about the central and southeast interior. Daytime temperatures will remain above average over western districts. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST Sunday. Weather & WarningsAustraliaNew South WalesVictoriaQueenslandWarnings SummaryForecastsBrisbane ForecastQld.
