Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Jul 29/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
A strong wind warning is current for coastal waters from
Torres Strait to Cairns.

Weather Situation
A high over New South Wales extends a ridge up the east coast of Queensland.
The high is expected to drift slowly southeast over the next few days and
gradually weaken. A weak upper trough should lie over Queensland's southeast for
the next couple of days.
Forecast for the rest of Friday
Fine conditions should persist across most of the state with only isolated
showers about the east coast. Light to moderate SE to NE winds over most of the
state, tending fresh about the east coast and strong north of Cairns.
Forecast for Saturday
Isolated showers are expected along Queensland's east coast and adjacent
inland. Very isolated, light showers are also possible over the eastern Darling
Downs and the Burnett district in the afternoon. Fine over the rest of the
state.  Patchy and mainly light early morning frost areas about the southeast
interior. Light to moderate SE to NE winds over most of the state, tending fresh
to strong about the northeast coast.
Forecast for Sunday
The high should be located in the eastern Tasman Sea which will allow the
onshore winds along the east coast of Queensland to gradually ease.  It should
remain fine over most of the state with only isolated showers about the east
coast, chiefly about the northeast tropical coast. Strong SE winds are expected
to continue about the east coast north of Cooktown. Early morning frost areas
about the southeast interior.
Forecast for Monday
The high should remain in the eastern Tasman Sea and will maintain a weak
ridge along the Queensland coast. Most of the state will again be fine with only
isolated showers expected about the coast north of about Cardwell. Strong SE
winds are expected to continue about the east coast north of Cooktown. Early
morning frost areas are again expected about the southeast interior.
Forecast for Tuesday
The high in the eastern Tasman Sea should continue to extend a ridge along
the east Queensland coast. Isolated showers will continue about the east coast
north of about Cardwell with the remainder of the state remaining fine. The
strong SE winds about the northeast tropical coast should finally ease. Early
morning frost areas are again expected about the southeast interior.
Outlook for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday
The high is forecast to remain near New Zealand with a ridge extending along
the east Queensland coast throughout the outlook period.  This weather pattern
should continue a weak onshore flow and some isolated showers along the east
coast of Queensland. Fine conditions should continue inland. Light morning frost
areas are likely to continue about the southeast interior.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Saturday.
