Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Jul 28/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
A strong wind warning is current for coastal waters from
Torres Strait to Bowen.

Weather Situation
A high lies just off the New South Wales coast and extends a ridge up the
east coast of Queensland. The high is expected to drift slowly southeast over
the next few days and gradually weaken. A weak upper trough should lie over
Queensland's southeast for the next few days.
Forecast for the rest of Friday
Fine conditions should persist across most of the state with only isolated
showers about the east coast. Isolated  afternoon showers may develop about the
southeast of the state east of the Great Dividing Range . Light to moderate SE
to NE winds over most of the state, tending fresh to strong about the east
coast.
Forecast for Saturday
The high will continue to move slowly east across the Tasman Sea, maintaining
the onshore flow and isolated showers along Queensland's east coast and nearby
inland areas. Very isolated, light showers are also possible over the eastern
Darling Downs. Fine over the rest of the state.  Patchy and mainly light early
morning frost areas about the southeast interior. Light to moderate SE to NE
winds over most of the state, tending fresh to strong about the northeast
coast.
Forecast for Sunday
The high should be located near New Zealand, allowing onshore winds along the
east coast of Queensland to gradually ease.  Remaining fine over most of the
state with only isolated showers about the east coast, chiefly about the
northeast tropical coast. Patchy and mainly light early morning frost areas
about the southeast interior.
Forecast for Monday
The high should remain close to New Zealand, and will maintain a weak ridge
along the Queensland coast. Most of the state will again be fine, with only
isolated showers expected about the coast north of about Cardwell. Early morning
frost areas about the southeast interior.
Outlook for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday
The high is forecast to remain near New Zealand initially, before a new high
builds over southeast Queensland around the middle of the week.  This weather
pattern should continue a weak onshore flow and some isolated showers along the
east coast of Queensland. Fine conditions should continue inland. Light morning
frost areas are likely to continue about the southeast interior.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST
Friday.
