Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Jul 28/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
A strong wind warning is current for coastal waters from
Torres Strait to Cooktown. A strong wind warning has been issued for coastal
waters from Cooktown to Bowen.

Weather Situation
A high over southern New South Wales extends a weak ridge over southern
Queensland. The high is expected to drift slowly southeast over the next few
days and weaken. A weak upper trough lies over the far southeast of the state
for the next couple of days.
Forecast for the rest of Thursday
Fine over most of the state except for some isolated showers about the
northeast coast and the far southeast of the state. Light to moderate SE to E
winds inland with fresh to strong SE winds at times about Torres Strait and the
northeast coast.
Forecast for Friday
Fine conditions should persist across most of the state with only isolated
showers about the east coast. Isolated  showers may develop further inland about
the southeast of the state in the afternoon. Light to moderate SE to NE winds
over most of the state, tending fresh to strong about the east coast. Early
morning frost areas are again expected about the southeast interior.
Forecast for Saturday
The high will continue to move slowly east across the Tasman Sea, maintaining
the onshore flow and isolated showers along Queensland's east coast and nearby
inland areas. Fine over the rest of the state.  Patchy and mainly light early
morning frost areas about the southeast interior.
Forecast for Sunday
The high should be located near New Zealand, allowing onshore winds along the
east coast to gradually ease.  Remaining fine over most of the state with only
isolated showers about the east coast, chiefly about the northeast tropical
coast. Patchy and mainly light early morning frost areas are again likely about
the southeast interior.
Forecast for Monday
The high should remain close to New Zealand with a very weak ridge extending
along the Queensland coast. Most of the state will again be fine with only
isolated showers about the coast north of about Cardwell. Early morning frost
areas area again likely about the southeast quarter of the state.
Outlook for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday
The high is forecast to remain near New Zealand during the outlook period,
and so will continue a weak onshore flow and isolated showers along the east
coast of Queensland. Fine conditions should continue inland. Light morning frost
areas are likely to continue about the southeast interior.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Friday.
