MELBOURNE - Jul 27/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time A strong wind warning is current for coastal waters from Torres Strait to Cooktown. A strong wind warning has been issued for coastal waters from Cooktown to Bowen. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A slow moving high over southern New South Wales extends a weak ridge over southern Queensland. The high is expected to drift slowly east over the next few days and move over the Tasman Sea on Thursday. Forecast for the rest of Thursday Fine over most of the state except for some isolated showers about the northeast coast and exposed parts of the southeast coast. Light to moderate SE to NE winds, fresh to strong at times about Torres Strait and the northeast coast. Forecast for Friday The high will lie over the western reaches of the Tasman Sea, and the associated onshore flow should allow showers to develop over much of the east coast, though they should remain isolated. An upper trough may allow the showers to extend into nearby inland areas in the southeast during the afternoon. Light to moderate SE to NE winds over most of the state, tending fresh to strong about the east coast. Mainly light early morning frost areas about the southeast interior. Forecast for Saturday The high will continue to move slowly east across the Tasman Sea, maintaining the onshore flow and isolated showers along Queensland's east coast and nearby inland areas. Fine over the rest of the state. Patchy and mainly light early morning frost areas about the southeast interior. Forecast for Sunday The high will be located near New Zealand, allowing onshore winds along the east coast to gradually ease. Remaining fine over most of the state, though with isolated showers about the east coast. Patchy and mainly light early morning frost areas about the southeast interior. Outlook for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday The high is forecast to remain near New Zealand during the outlook period, and so will continue an onshore flow and isolated showers along the east coast of Queensland.
