MELBOURNE - Jul 27/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
A strong wind warning is current for coastal waters from
Torres Strait to Cooktown. A strong wind warning has been issued for coastal
waters from Cooktown to Bowen.
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A slow moving high over southern New South Wales extends a weak ridge over
southern Queensland. The high is expected to drift slowly east over the next few
days and move over the Tasman Sea on Thursday.
Forecast for the rest of Thursday
Fine over most of the state except for some isolated showers about the
northeast coast and exposed parts of the southeast coast. Light to moderate SE
to NE winds, fresh to strong at times about Torres Strait and the northeast
coast.
Forecast for Friday
The high will lie over the western reaches of the Tasman Sea, and the
associated onshore flow should allow showers to develop over much of the east
coast, though they should remain isolated. An upper trough may allow the showers
to extend into nearby inland areas in the southeast during the afternoon. Light
to moderate SE to NE winds over most of the state, tending fresh to strong about
the east coast. Mainly light early morning frost areas about the southeast
interior.
Forecast for Saturday
The high will continue to move slowly east across the Tasman Sea, maintaining
the onshore flow and isolated showers along Queensland's east coast and nearby
inland areas. Fine over the rest of the state. Patchy and mainly light early
morning frost areas about the southeast interior.
Forecast for Sunday
The high will be located near New Zealand, allowing onshore winds along the
east coast to gradually ease. Remaining fine over most of the state, though
with isolated showers about the east coast. Patchy and mainly light early
morning frost areas about the southeast interior.
Outlook for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday
The high is forecast to remain near New Zealand during the outlook period,
and so will continue an onshore flow and isolated showers along the east coast
of Queensland. Fine inland. Possible light morning frost areas about the
southeast interior.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST
Thursday.
