Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Jul 27/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
A strong wind warning is current for coastal waters from
Torres Strait to Cape Tribulation. A strong wind warning has been issued for
coastal waters from Cape Tribulation to Bowen.

Weather Situation
A slow moving high over southern New South Wales extends a weak ridge over
southern Queensland. The high is expected to drift slowly east over the next few
days and move over the Tasman Sea on Thursday.
Forecast for the rest of Wednesday
Isolated showers about the North Tropical Coast, fine elsewhere. Light to
moderate SE to NE winds, fresh to strong about Torres Strait and the northeast
coast.
Forecast for Thursday
Isolated showers developing about exposed parts of the east coast. Fine
elsewhere with patchy early morning frosts over the central and southeast
interior. Light to moderate SE to NE winds, fresh to strong at times about
Torres Strait and the northeast coast.
Forecast for Friday
A high in the Tasman Sea will maintain at least fresh onshore winds and
isolated showers about the east coast, strong about the northeast coast. Very
isolated showers are forecast to extend into nearby inland areas in the south
during the afternoon as an upper trough moves over southern districts.  Fine
over the rest of the state with patchy and mainly light early morning frost
areas about the southeast interior.
Forecast for Saturday
The high will continue to move slowly east across the Tasman Sea, maintaining
the onshore flow and isolated showers along Queensland's east coast and nearby
inland areas. Fine over the rest of the state.  Patchy and mainly light early
morning frost areas about the southeast interior.
Forecast for Sunday
The high will be located near New Zealand, weakening onshore winds along the
east coast with isolated showers about the southeast coast and northeast
tropical coast. Patchy and mainly light early morning frost areas about the
southeast interior.
Outlook for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday
The high is forecast to remain over the eastern reaches of the Tasman Sea
during the outlook period. A weak surface trough is expected to develop over the
southern Coral Sea late on the weekend but is not forecast to significantly
affect Queensland's weather. Isolated showers about the east coast and fine
inland. Possible light morning frost areas about the southeast interior.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Thursday.
