MELBOURNE - Jul 26/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time A wind warning is current for coastal waters from Torres Strait to Cardwell. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A slow moving high over the Great Australian Bight extends a weak ridge over southern Queensland. The high is expected to drift slowly east over the next few days move over the Tasman Sea on Thursday. Forecast for the rest of Wednesday Fine conditions will persist except along the North Tropical Coast with isolated showers. Patchy areas of early morning frost will continue over the central and southeast interior. Light to moderate SE to NE winds, fresh t strong about the Torres Strait and the northeast coast. Forecast for Thursday The high should move slowly east and lie off the New South Wales coast by Thursday evening. A ridge should persist over the east coast of Queensland, which will maintain the fresh to strong E to SE winds about the central and northeast coasts. Isolated showers in the onshore flow along the entire east coast. Conditions will remain fine elsewhere with patchy early morning frosts over the central and southeast interior. Light to moderate SE to NE winds, fresh at times about the Torres Strait and the northeast coast. Forecast for Friday The high should drift into the central parts of the Tasman Sea whilst maintaining at least a fresh onshore wind flow about the east coast. The onshore winds should produce mainly isolated showers about the east coast, extending into nearby inland areas in the south during the afternoon and evening. Fine over the rest of the state. Patchy and mainly light early morning frost areas about the southeast interior. Forecast for Saturday The high should drift slowly towards the eastern reaches of the Tasman Sea during Saturday, maintaining the onshore flow and showers along Queensland's east coast and nearby inland areas. Fine over the rest of the state. Patchy and mainly light early morning frost areas about the southeast interior. Outlook for Sunday, Monday and Tuesday The high should remain over the eastern reaches of the Tasman Sea during the outlook period. A weak surface trough is expected to develop over the southern Coral Sea late on the weekend turning the winds more southerly and decreasing shower activity along the east coast on Monday. The high will reinforce itself in central Tasman Sea on Tuesday firming a ridge along the east coast and a return to isolated coastal showers. Just the chance of some patchy, mainly light morning frost areas about the southeast interior. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST Wednesday.
