Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Jul 25/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A slow moving high over South Australia extends a weak ridge over southern
Queensland. The high should move over the Tasman Sea by around Thursday.
Forecast for the rest of Monday
Remaining fine over most of the state, except for a few isolated showers
along the northeast tropical coast. Light and variable winds over southern
districts. Light to moderate SE to NE winds elsewhere, fresh at times along the
north tropical coast.
Forecast for Tuesday
The high will move over southeastern Australia, maintaining a firm ridge over
Queensland and increasing the SE wind flow along the east tropical coast of
Queensland. The ridge should maintain the fine conditions over most of the
state, except for mainly isolated showers about the northeast and central
coasts. Scattered showers between Cairns and Townsville due to a freshening
onshore wind flow and a weak upper level trough. Early morning frosts over the
central and southeast interior.
Forecast for Wednesday
The high should drift towards the southeast coast, and the associated onshore
flow should maintain isolated showers about the northeast and central coasts.
Fine conditions will persist elsewhere, with areas of early morning frost
continuing over the central and southeast interior.
Forecast for Thursday
The high will move slowly east into the Tasman Sea, maintaining the ridge
over the east coast of Queensland. Fresh to strong E to SE winds will produce
isolated showers about the northeast tropics and central coast, more frequent
along the northeast tropical coast between Cairns and Townsville. The wind flow
will also tend more onshore along the southern coast, introducing the chance of
some isolated coastal showers. Conditions will remain fine elsewhere with early
morning frosts over the central and southeast interior.
Forecast for Friday
The high should drift into the central parts of the Tasman Sea, whilst
maintaining at least a fresh onshore wind flow about the east coast. The
onshore winds should produce mainly isolated showers about the east coast,
extending into nearby inland areas during the afternoon and evening. Fine over
the rest of the state. Patchy early morning frost areas about the southeast
interior.
Outlook for Saturday, Sunday and Monday
The high will move slowly east over the Tasman Sea during the outlook period.
The ridge along the east coast should weaken late weekend as the high approaches
New Zealand. Isolated showers will continue along the east coast and adjacent
inland in the onshore wind flow. Conditions should remain fine elsewhere over
the interior. Patchy morning frost areas about the southeast interior.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Tuesday.
