Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Jul 24/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A slow moving high over South Australia extends a weak ridge into Queensland.
The ridge will strengthen along the east tropical coast mid week as the high
moves into Victoria and intensifies.
Forecast for the rest of Monday
A cold and clear morning over much of the southern, central and southeast
interior with widespread early frost. Fine over most of the state, with only
isolated showers developing along the northeast tropical coast. Light and
variable winds over southern districts with afternoon sea breezes near the
coast. Light to moderate SE to NE winds elsewhere, fresh at times along the
north tropical coast.
Forecast for Tuesday
The high will move into southeastern Australia, maintaining a firm ridge over
Queensland. Showers will increase over the tropical east coast between Cairns
and Townsville due to a freshening onshore wind flow and an approaching upper
level trough. Isolated showers will occur elsewhere along the east tropical
coast and adjacent inland, and also move on to the Central Coast. Fine
conditions are expected elsewhere under a stable airmass, though some high cloud
will extend over southern districts. Early morning frosts will occur over the
central and southeast interior.
Forecast for Wednesday
The high will intensify over southeastern Australia, strengthening the ridge
and increasing the SE wind flow along the east tropical coast of Queensland.
Isolated showers will occur about the east tropical and central coasts. Fine
conditions will persist elsewhere, with areas of early morning frost continuing
over the central and southeast interior.
Forecast for Thursday
The high will move slowly east into the Tasman Sea, maintaining the ridge
over the east coast of Queensland. Fresh to strong E to SE winds will produce
isolated showers about the northeast tropics and central coast, more frequent
along the northeast tropical coast between Cairns and Townsville. The wind flow
will also tend more onshore along the southern coast, with isolated showers
developing. Conditions will remain fine elsewhere with early morning frosts over
the central and southeast interior.
Outlook for Friday, Saturday and Sunday
The high will move slowly east over the Tasman Sea during the outlook period.
The ridge along the east coast will relax late weekend as the high approaches
New Zealand. Isolated showers will continue along the east coast and adjacent
inland in the onshore wind flow. A surface trough will most likely move east
over southern Queensland over the weekend, generating a patchy cloud band with
isolated showers and possible thunderstorms near and to its east. Conditions
should remain fine elsewhere over the interior. Early frost will occur over the
southeast interior.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST
Monday.
