Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Jul 24/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A slow moving high over South Australia extends a ridge into Queensland. As a
low to the northeast of the North Island of New Zealand continues to move
rapidly to the east, the ridge will extend into southern Queensland and southern
Coral Sea later today into Monday.
Forecast for the rest of Sunday
Fine throughout the state apart from isolated showers about Fraser Island.
Light to moderate E to SE winds over the tropics, fresh at times near the
exposed coast. Light to moderate SW to SE winds elsewhere.
Forecast for Monday
Lighter winds will result in a colder morning over southeast districts, with
extensive early frost affecting inland parts and also occurring over the
southern and central interior. Onshore winds will increase moisture over the
eastern tropics, decreasing the risk of early frost on the Tablelands and
increasing chances of isolated showers on the northeast tropical coast. Fine
conditions will occur elsewhere.
Forecast for Tuesday
The high will move into southeastern Australia, maintaining a firm ridge over
Queensland. Showers will increase over the tropical east coast between Cairns
and Townsville due to a freshening onshore wind flow and an approaching upper
level trough. Isolated showers will occur elsewhere along the east tropical
coast and adjacent inland, and also move onto the Central Coast. Fine conditions
are expected elsewhere under a stable airmass, though some high cloud will
extend over southern districts. Early morning frosts will occur over the central
and southeast interior.
Forecast for Wednesday
The high will intensify slightly over southeastern Australia, reinforcing the
ridge and increasing the SE wind flow along the east tropical coast of
Queensland. Isolated showers will occur about the east tropical and central
coasts. Fine conditions will persist elsewhere, with areas of early morning
frost continuing over the central and southeast interior.
Forecast for Thursday
The high will slowly move east maintaining a firm ridge over Queensland,
keeping fresh to strong SE winds and isolated showers along most parts of the
Queensland east coast. Showers will tend scattered about the North Tropical
Coast as a weak upper level trough approaches. Conditions should remain fine
over the interior with continuing frosts over southeastern and central parts of
the state.
Outlook for Friday, Saturday and Sunday
The high will slowly move east into the Tasman Sea during the outlook period,
extending fresh to strong SE winds and isolated showers along much of the east
Queensland coast. The high will slowly weaken from Friday in turn weakening
winds in the south. Mid level cloud will most likely increase over northern
Queensland on Friday due to a weak upper trough, possibly enhancing showers
further on the northeast tropical coast and producing isolated showers over the
northern interior. Conditions should remain fine elsewhere over the interior,
with early frost continuing over southeastern and central parts.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Monday.
