For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A high south of Tasmania extends a ridge north into western Queensland. A
complex depression occurs off the N.S.W coast. The high is expected to move
slowly southeast over the next few days and weaken while the depression will
move east a little.
Forecast for the rest of Friday
Dry over most of the state apart from a possible shower in the northern
tropics and near the Gold Coast. Extensive early frost over much of the
interior. Strong SE winds in the southern Gulf this morning otherwise moderate
to fresh SE winds across the tropics. Light to moderate S to SE winds over the
interior. Moderate to fresh S to SW winds over the southeast region tending
strong offshore from the southeast coast.
Forecast for Saturday
The high should continue to weaken with only a weak ridge remaining over
western Queensland. Moisture levels are expected to increase about the northeast
tropics as winds shift more southeasterly, leading to isolated showers about the
northeast tropical coast. Dry conditions are expected over the remainder of the
state with extensive early frost inland. Strong winds have finally eased over
the southern Gulf but persist offshore on the southeast coast.
Forecast for Sunday
The weak ridge should persist over western Queensland. Moisture continues to
increase about the northeast tropical coast as the southeasterly winds freshen
with increasing showers. Dry conditions should continue elsewhere in the state
with a widespread early frost over the interior. Frost areas now developing
further east over the southeast region as winds ease.
Forecast for Monday
A new high enters western Queensland with a ridge extending east to the
southeast of the state. This will decrease winds further over the southeast
region and maintain the chilly morning with extensive frost. Showers continue to
increase about the east coast, including exposed points of the southeast coast.
SE winds freshening over the tropics, reaching strong wind force over the
northeast tropics.
Outlook for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday
Tuesday, a ridge of higher pressure now occurs across southern Queensland
with solid east to southeasterly flow over the tropics. Strong winds north of
Cooktown. Increasing showers over the northeast tropics, dry over the interior,
early frost inland contracting south. Wednesday, showers starting to penetrate
into eastern inland districts, dry further west. Thursday, much the same
pattern as Wednesday but the early frost zone contracting to the southern and
southeast interior.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST
Friday.
