Australia -- Victoria Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Jul 22/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A complex low pressure system over the central Tasman Sea is moving slowly eastwards and will be near New Zealand by Saturday. Meanwhile a strong high pressure system to the south of Tasmania will extend a ridge northwards over Victoria on Friday night then the high will drift northwards across Tasmania towards eastern Bass Strait late in the weekend. A small low pressure trough will approach western Victoria over the weekend, moving across the State on Monday.
Forecast for the rest of FridayScattered showers in Gippsland. Isolated showers in remaining southern and mountain districts, clearing from the west. Fine and mostly sunny over the northern plains after local early frost and fog. Light snowfalls above 1200 metres on the eastern highlands. Cool to cold with a light to moderate southeasterly wind, fresh at first along the coast.Saturday 23 JulyMorning frost and fog patches. Scattered showers in Gippsland, mainly in the east, slowly clearing. Fine elsewhere apart from isolated showers later in the far west. A cool day with light east to northeasterly winds.Sunday 24 JulyEarly frost and fog inland. Isolated showers spreading over most districts, falling as snow above 1200 metres. Cool and mainly cloudy day with light to moderate northerly winds.Monday 25 JulyIsolated showers over most districts, clearing from the west and falling as snow above about 1200 metres. Cool and mainly cloudy day with light to moderate northwest to westerly winds.The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 pm EST Friday.Product IDV10310
