Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Jul 21/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
A strong wind warning has been issued for southeast coastal
waters from this evening. A strong wind warning has been issued for southern
Gulf waters for Friday morning.
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A high south of Tasmania extends a ridge north into western Queensland. A
complex low lies off the coast of New South Wales. The high is expected to move
slowly southeast over the next few days and weaken while the low will remain
near stationary and deepen.
Forecast for the rest of Thursday
Fine conditions are expected throughout the state. Moderate to fresh SE winds
will continue across the tropics. Moderate SW to SE winds are expected over the
remainder of the state, increasing to strong W to SW winds over the southeast of
the state.
Forecast for Friday
Fine conditions will persist across the state with an extensive early frost
over the interior. The early frost will be more patchy in nature about the
southeast interior due to the increased winds. Strong SE winds are again
expected in the southern Gulf in the morning with strong SW winds over southeast
coastal waters. Mostly moderate SW to SE winds are expected elsewhere.
Forecast for Saturday
The high south of Tasmania should weaken rapidly but the ridge is expected to
persist over western Queensland. The low should now be centred near northern New
Zealand. Fine conditions are expected across the entire state with an extensive
early frost about much of the interior. The strong winds should finally ease in
the southern Gulf but strong S to SW winds will persist about the east coast
south of Sandy Cape.
Forecast for Sunday
The high should continue to weaken with only a weak ridge remaining over
western Queensland. Moisture levels are expected to increase about the northeast
tropics as winds shift more southeasterly, possibly leading to isolated showers
about the northeast tropical coast. Fine conditions are expected over the
remainder of the state with an extensive early frost inland.
Forecast for Monday
The weak ridge should persist over southern Queensland. Moisture levels will
increase about the northeast tropical coast as the southeasterly winds freshen,
possible becoming strong late in the day. Isolated showers are therefore
expected to continue about the northeast tropical coast. Fine conditions should
continue elsewhere in the state with a widespread early frost about the central
and southern interior.
Outlook for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday
A high is likely to develop in the southern Coral Sea during the outlook
period, extending a ridge over southern Queensland. A moisture SE flow is
expected to develop about the east coast with isolated showers likely to develop
about most of the east coast during the outlook period, mainly over the central
and tropical coasts. The early morning frost area over the interior is likely to
contract to the southern interior as winds and moisture levels increase over the
remainder of the state. Strong SE winds are expected about the east coast north
of about Cairns.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Friday.
