MELBOURNE - Jul 21/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A complex low pressure system over the central Tasman Sea is moving slowly eastwards and will be near New Zealand by Saturday. Meanwhile a strong high pressure system to the south of Tasmania will be slow moving until Saturday then drift northwards across Tasmania towards eastern Bass Strait late in the weekend. A small low pressure trough will approach western Victoria over the weekend, moving across the State on Monday. Forecast for the rest of ThursdayRain over Gippsland with locally heavy falls in the west. Showers over remaining southern and mountain districts, isolated in the west. Snowfalls above about 1400 metres. Fine and mostly sunny over the northern plains. Cool to cold with moderate to fresh south to southeasterly wind, locally strong about the coast and ranges.Friday 22 JulyScattered showers in Gippsland. Isolated showers in remaining southern and mountain districts, clearing from the west. Fine over the northern plains after early frost and fog. Snowfalls above 1200 metres. Cool to cold with a moderate to fresh southeasterly wind.Saturday 23 JulyEarly frost inland. Scattered showers in Gippsland slowly clearing from the west. Fine elsewhere apart from isolated showers later in the west. A cool day with light east to northeasterly winds.Sunday 24 JulyEarly frost and fog inland. Isolated showers spreading over most districts, falling as snow above 1200 metres. Cool and mainly cloudy day with light to moderate northerly winds.Monday 25 JulyIsolated showers over most districts, clearing from the west and falling as snow above about 1200 metres.
