Weather Situation
A high over the Great Australian Bight will continue to move southeast into
the Southern Ocean south of Tasmania while slowly intensifying. This high
extends a ridge over southern Queensland. A low pressure system off the New
South Wales coast is expected to deepen further and remain slow moving.
Forecast for the rest of Wednesday
Cool and dry SW to SE winds over the whole state. Strong W to SW winds on the
southeast coast. Mostly light to moderate SW to SE winds elsewhere in the state.
Forecast for Thursday
Fine and dry weather to continue throughout the state. Extensive early frost
is expected over the interior including the southern tropics. Strong SW winds
are forecast to persist on the southeast coast.
Forecast for Friday
The low pressure system is forecast to move slowly east into the Tasman Sea
while the southern high weakens. Winds will turn more southerly on the southeast
coast but remain strong. Fine weather is expected throughout the state with
extensive early frost inland including the southern tropics.
Forecast for Saturday
The low is forecast to move further east, with coastal winds starting to
shift S to SE. Strong S'ly winds are expected to persist off the southeast
coast. Again fine weather is forecast throughout the state with widespread early
frost over the interior.
Forecast for Sunday
The southern high is expected to weaken with the strong winds finally
decreasing in the southeast coast. Possible isolated showers exposed parts of
the southeast coast while remaining dry over the interior with widespread frost.
Outlook for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday
Monday, winds ease further with increasing showers expected about the east
coast as moisture levels continue to build. The early frost area starts to
contract over the interior. Tuesday, showers expected to continue to increase
over the northeast tropics but decrease on the southeast coast. Milder
temperatures forecast over the interior with decreasing early frost. Wednesday,
showers still expected about the east coast. Remaining dry over the interior
with continuing milder temperatures.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Thursday.
