Strait and Cooktown and also southern Gulf waters for Wednesday morning. A

Wednesday.

Weather Situation
A high over the Great Australian Bight extends a ridge through South
Australia and into southern Queensland and is expected to move southeast and
intensify. The low pressure system off the N.S.W coast is expected to deepen
further.
Forecast for the rest of Tuesday
Very isolated showers in the northeast tropics otherwise dry over the
remainder of the state. Fresh to strong SE winds across the tropics, light to
moderate SE winds over most of the interior and the east central coast.
Freshening SW winds over southeast Queensland.
Forecast for Wednesday
The intense depression off the N.S.W coast will persist along with an intense
high south of Tasmania. Both systems will maintain cool, dry southerly winds
over most of the state. Over the southeast region a little early drizzle may
occur on the Darling Downs. Extensive early frost over the southern half of the
state. Very isolated showers about the northeast tropical coast. Strong SE winds
continuing over the tropics and strong SW winds persisting on the southeast
coast. A high to very high fire danger on parts of the southeast coast.
Forecast for Thursday
Little change in the pattern from Wednesday with showers contracting further
north over the tropics. Dry over the remainder of the state with extensive early
frost over the interior including the southern tropics. Strong SE winds have now
eased over the tropics but strong SW persist on the southeast coast.
Forecast for Friday
The low pressure system moves east a little with the southern high weakening.
Winds turn more southerly on the southeast coast but remain strong. Dry through
the state with extensive early frost inland.
Forecast for Saturday
As the low moves further east, coastal winds start to shift southeasterly.
Strong southerly winds persisting off the southeast coast. Again dry through the
state with widespread early frost over the interior.
Outlook for Sunday, Monday and Tuesday
Sunday, as the southern high weakens the strong winds finally decrease on the
southeast coast. Southeasterly winds along the east coast lead to isolated
showers. Dry over the interior. Monday, winds ease further with increasing
showers about the east coast as moisture levels continue to increase. The early
frost area starts to contract over the interior. Tuesday, showers continue to
increase over the northeast tropics but decreases on the southeast coast. Milder
temperatures over the interior with decreasing early frost.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Wednesday.
