MELBOURNE - Jul 19/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time A Strong Wind Warning is current for waters between Torres Strait and Cooktown and also southern Gulf waters. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A high over the Great Australian Bight extends a ridge through South Australia and into southern Queensland and is expected to move southeast and intensify. A deepening low pressure system is expected to form off the central New South Wales coast during Tuesday with freshening SW winds over southeast Queensland. Forecast for the rest of Tuesday Very isolated showers in the northeast tropics. Isolated morning frosts over the southern interior. Moderate SW to SE winds inland, tending moderate to fresh SW about the southern coast and strong SE in the tropics and southern gulf. Forecast for Wednesday The low off the New South Wales coast continues to deepen and the southern high now south of Tasmania continues to intensify. Dry over most of the state, just very isolated morning showers persisting in the northeast tropics. Strong SW winds now developing on the southeast coast. Widespread early frost over the southern and central interior. Forecast for Thursday The low remains off the New South Wales coast directing dry SW winds over most of Queensland. Very isolated showers over eastern Cape York Peninsula, otherwise dry across the state. Widespread early frost over the interior, including the southern tropics. Strong SW winds about the southeast coast. Forecast for Friday The low remains off the New South Wales coast directing dry SW winds over most of Queensland. Fine throughout. Widespread early frost over the interior, including the southern tropics. Strong SW winds about the southeast coast. Outlook for Saturday, Sunday and Monday Fine conditions with widespread morning frost on Saturday with the low remaining off the New South Wales coast. On Sunday the low moves east away from the Australian mainland with winds weakening about the southeast. Isolated showers developing about the exposed southeast coast as winds also turn morning S'ly. On Monday, as the coastal winds turn more SE'ly, isolated showers will develop about most of the east coast. Dry over the interior with early frost. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST Tuesday.
