Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Jul 18/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
A Strong Wind Warning is current for waters between Torres
Strait and Cooktown. A strong Wind Warning has also been issued for southern
Gulf waters for Tuesday morning.

Weather Situation
A high over the Great Australian Bight extends a ridge through South
Australia and into southern Queensland and is expected to move southeast and
intensify. A deepening depression is expected to form off the central N.S.W
coast during Tuesday with freshening SW winds over southeast Queensland.
Forecast for the rest of Monday
Very isolated showers over the southeast interior this evening, dry over the
remainder of the state apart from some isolated showers persisting about the
northeast tropical coast. Strong SE winds about the northeast tropical coast.
Forecast for Tuesday
As the depression off the N.S.W coast depends SW winds will freshen over
southeast Queensland. Some early fog patches over the southeast interior
otherwise becoming drier over the state. Very isolated showers persisting in the
northeast tropics with strong SE winds. Strong SE winds also developing in the
southern Gulf in the morning. Extensive early frost over the southern and
southeast interior.
Forecast for Wednesday
The depression continues to deepen and the southern high now south of
Tasmania continues to intensify. Almost dry over most of the state. Some showers
persisting in the northeast tropics but decreasing with time. Strong SW winds
now developing on the southeast coast. Extensive early frost over the southern
and southeast interior but expanding further north and west.
Forecast for Thursday
Little change in the pattern, Isolated showers contracting further north over
the tropics, dry over the remainder of the state with widespread early frost
over the interior, including the southern tropics and the Channel Country.
Strong winds have eased over the tropics but persist on the southeast coast.
Forecast for Friday
Little change from Thursday, extensive early frost inland, dry throughout the
state. Strong SW winds offshore from the southeast coast.
Outlook for Saturday, Sunday and Monday
Saturday, the depression off the N.S.W coast finally weakens allowing for
winds to ease over southeast Queensland. This will lower morning temperatures
with increased frost on the southeast coastal district. Isolated showers
developing on exposed points of the southeast coast. Dry over the remainder.
Sunday, little change from Saturday but the southerly airflow is starting to
turn southeasterly about the east coast. Monday, as the coastal winds turn more
southeasterly moisture levels will increase and showers will start to redevelop
about most of the east coast. Dry over the interior with early frost.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Tuesday.
