MELBOURNE - Jul 17/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time A Strong Wind Warning is current for waters between Torres Strait and Cape Tribulation. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A high near New Zealand extends a weakening ridge along the east coast of Queensland. A new high near the Great Australian Bight will strengthen and cause a dry southerly airflow to become established over Queensland from Tuesday. A low will develop off the New South Wales coast over the next few days. Forecast for the rest of Monday Cloudy about eastern districts with isolated showers about the southeast interior and the northeast tropical coast. Fine elsewhere. Isolated early frost patches on the Granite Belt. Strong SE winds along the tropical coast north of Cape Tribulation. Forecast for Tuesday A low is forecast to form off the New South Wales coast and in combination with the high south of the Great Australian Bight will direct dry, cool SW winds over southern and inland districts. Fine through most of Queensland with some isolated showers over the northeast tropical coast. Early frost over parts of the southeast interior. Strong SE winds along the east coast should become confined to north of Cooktown by the afternoon. Forecast for Wednesday A low off the east coast is forecast to move closer to the New South Wales coast and continue directing dry, cool SW winds over southern Queensland. Fine throughout. Widespread morning frost is likely over most southern districts. Strong SE winds are forecast north of Cooktown, but are expected to ease by the afternoon. Forecast for Thursday A low off the New South Wales coast is forecast to continue directing dry and cool SW winds over southern and central Queensland. Fine throughout. Widespread morning frost is likely over most southern and central districts, extending into the southern tropics and tropical highlands. Fresh to strong SW winds are expected to develop about the southeast coast late in the day. Outlook for Friday, Saturday and Sunday Queensland will remain under the influence of a low pressure system moving east across the Tasman Sea. Expect mostly dry S to SW winds in most districts, tending SE in the tropics. Fine conditions apart from isolated showers possibly developing about the exposed coast south of Fraser Island on Saturday or Sunday. Cold overnight temperatures over most districts with widespread early frost to continue over much of the interior, extending into the tropical highlands. Fresh to strong southerly winds are expected to continue about southeast coastal waters before easing slightly on Sunday. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST Monday.
