MELBOURNE - Jul 17/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A high pressure system over the central Tasman Sea is moving away to the east. A cold front will approach Victoria from the west later today but will weaken to a low pressure trough as it crosses the State on Monday. A low pressure system is expected to form off the central New South Wales coast on Tuesday and will persist on Wednesday and Thursday. Meanwhile a high pressure system will form in the Bight on Monday and move south of Tasmania between Tuesday and Thursday. Forecast for the rest of SundayPatchy rain or showers over central and northern areas at first. A band of rain over the west moving eastwards during the evening and at night. Generally remaining dry over East Gippsland. Snowfalls developing on the mountains above 1400 metres. A freshening northerly wind, tending westerly later in the far west.Monday 18 JulyScattered showers in most districts. Snowfalls above 1200 metres. A cool to cold and mostly cloudy day with generally light winds.Tuesday 19 JulyRain areas in Gippsland and isolated showers elsewhere, mainly in southern and mountain districts. Snowfalls above about 1200 metres. Cool to cold with moderate to fresh southerly wind.Wednesday 20 JulyRain areas in east Gippsland and isolated showers in remaining southern and mountain districts, Snowfalls above about 1600 metres. Cool to cold with moderate to fresh south to southeasterly wind.Thursday 21 JulyWidespread rain in east Gippsland and scattered showers in remaining southern and mountain districts, Snowfalls above about 1600 metres.
