Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Jul 16/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
A Strong Wind Warning is current for waters between Torres
Strait and Cairns.

Weather Situation
A high [1035hPa] east of Tasmania extends a ridge about the east coast of
Queensland. The high will move east over the next few days and weaken as it
moves across the Tasman Sea. An upper-level trough currently over eastern
Queensland will move late today.
Forecast for the rest of Saturday
Rain areas over the southeast of the state will continue to contract east
while weakening. Isolated showers are possible over all eastern districts,
mostly likely about the southern interior and northeast tropical coast. Moderate
SE to E winds inland, tending SE on the east coast and strong north of Cairns.
Forecast for Sunday
Cloudy across much of the state with morning drizzle areas and isolated
afternoon showers over eastern districts. Widespread early fog is likely about
the south and west of the state. Light to moderate SW to SE winds inland,
tending moderate SE on the east coast and becoming strong north of Cape
Tribulation.
Forecast for Monday
A high in the Tasman Sea will continue to direct a moist onshore winds onto
the east coast, strong north of Cape Tribulation, while a light to moderate SW
wind change will continue to dry out conditions in the west. Cloudy about
eastern districts with isolated showers about the southeast interior and the
northeast tropical coast.
Forecast for Tuesday
A low is forecast to form off the New South Wales coast directing drier SW
winds over southern and inland districts. Fine through much of Queensland with
some isolated showers over the northeast tropical coast. Early frost is possible
over the southeast interior. Strong SE winds should become confined to the east
coast north of Cooktown.
Forecast for Wednesday
A low off the New South Wales coast is forecast to continue directing dry SW
winds over southern Queensland. Fine apart from isolated showers about the
northeast tropical coast. Widespread morning frost is likely over most southern
districts. Strong SE winds are forecast north of Cooktown.
Outlook for Thursday, Friday and Saturday
Queensland will remain under the influence of a low pressure system moving
east across the Tasman Sea. Expect mostly dry S to SW winds in southern
districts, tending SE in the tropics. Fine conditions apart from isolated
showers about the northeast tropical coast, and possibly developing about the
exposed coast south of Fraser Island on Friday or Saturday. Cold overnight
temperatures over most districts with widespread early frost to continue over
the southern interior.
