For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A high near Victoria extends a ridge through Queensland. The high will move east over the next few days, weakening on Saturday as it moves into the Tasman Sea. An upper-level trough near the western border will move steadily eastward across the state before weakening and moving south of Queensland late Saturday. Forecast for the rest of Friday Cloud and rain areas over most of the southern half of the state will move further east. Rain easing in the west but becoming more widespread in the east. Isolated thunderstorms about northwest and central parts, extending to the north tropical coast. Isolated showers about the east coast, scattered at times about the North Tropical Coast. Moderate to fresh SE winds in the east, strong near the coast. Moderate SE to NE winds inland. Forecast for Saturday Rain areas will contract further east, but morning drizzle and afternoon showers will continue over the western, central and southern interior. Maximum temperatures will generally be several degrees below average under the cloud and rain band. Isolated showers will continue about the Peninsula coast and develop about the inland tropics in the afternoon. Strong winds are expected about the east coast north of about Cape Tribulation, and about parts of the Southeast and Capricornia coasts. Forecast for Sunday The upper-level trough is expected to clear the east coast but it is expected to remain mostly cloudy across the state with morning drizzle areas over much of the eastern half tending to isolated afternoon showers. Showers will be more frequent about the far southeast of the state due to lingering instability. Isolated showers about the northeast tropical coast. The far west of the state should be fine. Strong winds will become restricted to the coast north of Cape Tribulation. Forecast for Monday A high in the Tasman Sea will continue to direct a moist low-level flow across much of Queensland. Morning drizzle areas are again expected about central and eastern parts of the state before clearing and tending to isolated showers in the afternoon. Isolated showers are expected to continue about the northeast tropical coast with strong SE winds about the coast north of Cape Tribulation. Forecast for Tuesday As a new high strengthens over the Great Australian Bight, a drier southerly airflow becomes established over most of Queensland. Fine conditions over most locations with just some isolated showers about the exposed southeast coast, and over the northeast tropical coast. Early frost over the southeast interior. Strong SE winds confined to the coast north of Cooktown. Outlook for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday The high is expected to move to the south of Tasmania and strengthen. This will maintain the southerly airflow and predominantly fine conditions, with just the possibility of some isolated showers about the North Tropical Coast. Early frost areas becoming widespread over the southern interior. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST Saturday.
