Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Jul 11/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
A Strong Wind Warning is current for waters between Torres
Strait and Cape Tribulation, and the far northern parts of the Northeast Gulf.

Weather Situation
A high pressure system in the Great Australian Bight is moving slowly
northeast, extending a ridge across South Australia into southern Queensland.
Forecast for the rest of Tuesday
The high weakens while moving over South Australia but continues to extend a
ridge over southern Queensland.  An approaching upper level trough from the west
will thicken higher cloud over the Channel Country and extend across the Warrego
district with no rain. Extensive early frost over the interior. Showers
increasing about the central and northeast tropical coast. Strong SE winds
occurring over northeast tropical waters.
Forecast for Wednesday
The high weakens further over South Australia but a new cell will form over
the southern ocean. Early frost decreasing over the interior as minimum
temperatures rise with the thickening higher cloud. A little patchy light rain
will develop in the Channel Country. Showers continue to increase about the east
coast as winds turn more easterly. Strong winds persisting over northeast
tropical waters.
Forecast for Thursday
The next high moves into Victoria, patchy rain develops further over western
districts and now enters the western Darling Downs. Early frost contracting to
the southeast interior. Showers about the east coast extending south to Fraser
Island. Strong winds remaining over the northeast tropics.
Forecast for Friday
The upper level trough enters western Queensland, the southern high
intensifies, freshening the winds about the Queensland east coast. Strong winds
now developing southwards to Sandy Cape. Rain areas developing further over the
interior but extending to eastern districts while clearing the west. Showers and
possible thunderstorms remaining over the central interior in the afternoon
after the rain areas clear. Showers now about the whole of the east coast and
extending inland. Early frost contracting to the Granite Belt.
Outlook for Saturday, Sunday and Monday
Saturday, Rain areas contracting to eastern districts as the upper level
trough moves east. Showers and fog areas to follow over the western interior.
Showers persisting in the northeast tropics. Strong winds easing about the east
coast. Sunday,  rain areas have cleared most of the coast, showers or drizzle
remaining over the interior with some early fog. Monday, showers and drizzle
gradually decreasing over the interior, showers persisting in the southeast.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST
Tuesday.
