Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Jul 10/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
A Strong Wind Warning is current for the Southeast Gulf, far
northern parts of the Northeast Gulf, and for waters between Torres Strait and
Cooktown, extending to Cape Tribulation by late morning.
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A slow moving high pressure system in the western Great Australian Bight
extends a ridge across South Australia into southern Queensland.
Forecast for the rest of Monday
Isolated showers about the northeast tropical coast, dry over the remainder
of the state. Cold over the interior in the morning with widespread early frost.
Strong SE winds continuing across the tropics. Light to moderate SE to SW winds
over the remainder of the state, fresh about the southeast early.
Forecast for Tuesday
The high weakens slowly and moves across South Australia, weakening the ridge
over southern Queensland. Showers continuing about the far northeast tropics,
extending south of Cairns at night. Dry over the remainder of the state.
Increasing high cloud over the Channel Country will extend through southern
districts. Morning frosts over much of central and southern Queensland,
extending into the southern tropics. Light to moderate SW to SE winds in
southern districts, tending strong SE over the northeast tropics.
Forecast for Wednesday
The high weakens while positioned over western New South Wales. An
approaching upper level trough from the west thickens the higher cloud over
southern districts, with some light rain possible in the Channel Country.
Morning frost to contract to the southeast interior and become more isolated as
a result of this high cloud. Showers increasing about the central and northeast
tropical coast. Strong SE winds occurring over northeast tropical waters.
Forecast for Thursday
The high builds slightly over southeastern Australia as winds turn more
easterly about the Queensland east coast with showers extending south to the
Fraser Coast. As the upper level trough approaches Queensland, high cloud will
thicken over the west and through southern districts with patchy light rain over
the Channel Country and Warrego. Isolated early frost over the southeast
interior, reducing further due to building high cloud. Strong winds persisting
over northeast tropical waters.
Outlook for Friday, Saturday and Sunday
Friday, the southern high moves southeast of Victoria and intensifies
slightly while the upper level trough enters western Queensland and develops
rain areas over much of the state, clearing the west late in the day. Isolated
showers in the far north and initially about eastern districts. Saturday, rain
areas contract to eastern districts with isolated showers remaining through
central parts as the upper trough moves east across Queensland. Sunday, rain
areas clear the east coast as the upper trough moves offshore. Isolated showers
to remain over eastern districts in a moist airmass.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST
Monday.
