MELBOURNE - Jul 10/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time A Strong Wind Warning is current for the Southeast Gulf, far northern parts of the Northeast Gulf, and for waters between Torres Strait and Cooktown. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A slow moving high pressure system to the south of Perth extends a ridge across South Australia into southern Queensland. Forecast for the rest of Sunday Isolated showers developing about the northeast tropical coast overnight otherwise dry over the remainder of the state. Fresh to strong SE winds across the tropics. Light to moderate SE to SW winds over the remainder of Queensland. Forecast for Monday The high will move northeast across the Great Australian Bight and weaken while maintaining the ridge across southern Queensland. A cold front moving across N.S.W will clear the east coast and freshen SW winds over southern Queensland early. Isolated early showers about the northeast tropical coast, dry over the remainder of the state. Chilly over the interior in the morning with widespread early frost. Strong SE winds continuing across the tropics. Light to moderate SE to SW winds over the remainder of the state. Forecast for Tuesday The high continues to weaken and moves across South Australia. The ridge over southern Queensland persists but weakens. Showers developing about the central coast overnight and continuing about the northeast tropical coast. Dry over the remainder of the state. Increasing high cloud over the Channel Country will extend through southern districts, reducing and contracting the early frost to the eastern half of the state. Easing winds overnight from Monday will expand the early frost on the SE coastal district. Strong SE winds persisting over the northeast tropics. Forecast for Wednesday The southern high weakens while positioned over Victoria or N.S.W. An approaching upper level trough from the west thickens the higher cloud over the Channel Country leading to little or no rain in the southwest. Higher cloud now reaching southeast Queensland and will reduce the early frost further. Showers increasing about the central and northeast tropical coast. Strong SE winds occurring over northeast tropical waters. Forecast for Thursday The southern high moves over southeast Victoria and turns winds more easterly about the east coast with increasing moisture and showers. As the upper level trough approaches Queensland, higher cloud will thicken over the southwest and through southern districts with patchy light rain now developing over the Channel Country. Early frost continues to contract, now over the southeast interior. Strong winds persisting north of Cooktown. Outlook for Friday, Saturday and Sunday Friday, the southern high moves southeast of Victoria and intensifies slightly while the upper level trough enters western Queensland and clears the weather. Rain areas however develop further over the central interior and extend east. Showers continue to increase over eastern districts. Saturday, rain areas contract to eastern districts and increase as the upper level trough moves across Queensland. Sunday, rain areas have cleared the coast but showers and early fog remain over eastern half of the state. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST Monday.
